Ian-Sempai claims in this video that had the Garand been adopted in .276, 7.62 NATO and 5.56 would have been unnecessary developments.

Is there truth to this?

He's an idiot that believes in the one caliber myth. Even in the military, belted M855 snd unbelted M855 are considered completely different from a logistics standpoint.

Carrying more ammo on an individual basis would have been the natural progression regardless of people chasing a snowflake trajectory and ft/lbs energy table on their powerpoint presentations.
>>
I don't know how good of a caliber 276 is, but if it's good then yeah, those would have been completely unnecessary as they were just segways to 5.56, which is an intermediate just like 276.

We could have had 276 for grunts and 30-06 for our dmr lads.
>>
>>29435017
I think his point was that the US would've had .276 Garands in WW2 which undoubtedly would've performed better than the .30-06, backed up by heavier weapons in .30-06 and possibly .276.

Post-war, NATO would've settled for an intermediate cartridge immediately instead of US influence creating the 7.62 NATO. It's highly probable though that they would've still had a second, heavier round for GPMGs and whatnot. Because the heavy round would not have been designed for a "light rifle" they would've probably gone for something beefier than 7.62 NATO.

Why is the barrel extension on a AR-15 not integral to the barrel? So i.e. why cant they machine it out of the barrel blank when they are rifling the barrel?
20 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>29434627
Probably just simpler to machine as two parts
>>
>>29434627
A versatile AR will have the option of different barrel attachments such as a flash hider or other advanced milling. Similar to a shotgun with a choke, if you are stuck with just one you lose the option to customize the weapon to suit your needs.

Unless you want to just recrown old rifles and screw on scope mounts, you'll want to go into either engineering or manufacturing technology proper.

Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, drafting, CNC, welding, etc.

Finally filed my taxes and getting $1,800 back. What's a cool/interesting rifle in 5.56 I could get? Could I realistically get an FNC for this much or would I have to shell out more?

I been actually thinking about some shit
About the Army and Navy
What if tomorrow is the day
That the fucking aliens came
And invaded our nation?
Like, would we even be able to fuck with their shit?
Like do we have the type of weaponry to fuck with their ships?
So not at all, like would they just walk up in this motherfucker
Laughin' at us, and blastin' at us
And makin' everybody disintegrate and assimilate
Without a hint of intimidation?
Or could we do some shit to be making they heart race?
Granted I don't know the alien heart, but
You get what the fuck I'm sayin?
Like what the fuck would it be like?
Would they be like Earth go hard?
Or is it just another conquest?
Or would they be like damn earth go hard
They was harder than Simian

M16 became less sexy when it ditched the carry handle. All other guns learned from the M16s mistake.
>>
>>29432203
The M16 had a carry handle so it could have sights at a comfortable height, due to the straight-line stock.
>>
>>29432214
I know, I'm just saying it should've kept the carry handle.

Has there ever been a firearm that employs miniature ordinance that lodges itself in the target and then detonates? The idea is akin to tasers that shoot metal prongs into the target and then deliver electricity but the prongs are replaced with shaped charges with can be detonates at will. Picture unrelated.

Certain fuze/warhead combinations offer variable penetration settings.

Attaching, waiting, and detonating looks cool, but detonating on impact is far more practical and reliable.

What does /k/ recommend for a first rifle purchase on a ~500 dollar budget? Local funstores mark prices up on a ridiculous level, so I've been thinking about using an FFL. I've been looking at Norinco SKS types on Gunbroker, but have also seen some AKs in the mix. I love the AK platform, but I dont want to end up sinking more money into a shitty IO ak in the long run instead of saving and buying an Arsenal. Any thoughts? Have a PAP for your trouble.

Save an extra $300 and get a Garand.
>>
Save up another $100, go to atlantic firearms and get a QC'd Wasr 10.
>>
Please dont get the m90np its terrible mine was not heat treated and mushroomed badly on the rear of the bolt carrier after only 150 rnds it sucks. Ive owned a few arsenals and i lived every one i had a 106f and 107fr both superb guns a 100-200 over priced but very well built by bulgaria. Wasrs are hands down the one of the few best ak's to start out with if you check it out good enough check out armslist theres always people selling them because theyre very common ak's. I have a yugo sks and the thing is a beast i use wolf mostly and ill go periods of 6-7 months of many outdoor and indoor periods with almost 1000rnds in the period and it still works like a charm. Best part is there honest to god built guns for the purpose of defending a country back in the day and is properly built and usually you can get them brand new from classic and get layaway too

Hello /k/

I'm in the market for my first centerfire rifle, at or around $1000 (give-or-take some). What would be some good options? I was leaning more towards autoloading rifles, but I was also interested in a few bolt action rifles as well.

I'm in a bind, I have a couple days to pick it out, and I've been searching around. People are constantly telling me to get a basic sporter AR-15 or Mosin Nagant, but I want something that is a bit nicer overall.

What will be your primary use for it?
>>
>>29431220

AR-15 is a good choice. For $1000 you don't need to get a basic sporter, you could get a PSA lower and BCM complete upper with a KMR or a rail system or something.

Well bolts are great because they are cheap. I would recommend something in 30 Cal to get rid of the flinch, SMLE, Yugo or T*rkroach Mausers, Finnish Nuggets things of this nature. Plus if you spend 300 bucks on let say an SMLE you have 700 bucks for Ammo and some other stuff. There arent many Milsurp semi-autos you can get for cheap other then the Hakim(or the SVT if you are a Canadian)
But if you want a more modern semi-auto and alot of ammo. Then go with a Budget AR like Rugers AR-556 or a Newer WASR AKM. There are also Lever action rifles, Like Rossi and Uberti. If you want to keep it on the cheap get a Rossi M92 in 357 Magnum/38 Special.

The best shop I've been to in Phoenix so far has been Shooter's World on 28th Ave. Their prices and selection are OK. Nothing too special, but if you buy a gun from them, they give you two free range passes, a T-shirt, and a coupon for lessons from them.

Go check out Cabela's. Their prices suck, but they have a pretty neat selection for you to handle. There's also Mo Money Pawn Shop. Their prices also suck but they'll usually have some interesting guns in there. Last time I was there, I noticed an HK91.

The best place to buy ammo is Ace Hardware on Indian School Rd near 32nd St. The prices and selection are pretty damn great. Cheaper than online most of the time. If you want to do an online transfer, I'd recommend Rezz Guns also on Indian School Rd. The guys working there are pretty cool, and they charge like $20 last time I was there.

Just shot my first couple of guns today. I'm 21 years old and fired a .22 revolver, .22 Luger and a 9mm gun. (Can't remember what kind)
Shot them all for around an hour or so at the range. It was fun, but now I am thinking of getting one for protection. What kind of pistol would you recommend for home safety and should I take a class or just keep practicing?

Go to a gun store and ask to hold the following:
Glock 19
Glock 43
Cz75 compact
Springfield xds or xds mod2

These are relatively cheap 9mm pistols in a compact to sub compact size. You are going to need to hold them and possibly rent and shoot them at a gun store or range to get a grasp of what feels good to shoot in your hands. If you cant rent or try out any guns, then purchase the one that feels best when held with a proper grip.

If you can attend a class do so. You can also ask for recommendations on what gun to get from the instructor. If you have a buddy to teach you the basics, that also helps.

Rule 1) NEVER male your picture more interesting than your question.

I know its not yours, ive been on this site far too long and that makes me sad.

To answer your question:

Ultra poor edition- Hi-Point. Ergonomics of a cast iron brick, aesthetics of a REALLY ugly brick. However, they are reliable and will shoot bullets.

Not a massive poor faggot- Glock 17. Rock solid. Reliable as fuck. Proven time and time again.

Not a poor faggot BUT a massive hipster who just CANT get a Glock because Glocks are too mainstream- Springfield XD, S&W M&P, Walther PPQ. They will go bang, and throw 9mm, but with less aftermarket support than Glock.
