As a fellow califag I'm with you. So long as I'm capable of voting I will live in CA and play my part. Why is the 40 considered the worst of both worlds? I get that it has the limited round capacity of the 45, but what is the downside it shares with 9mm?
well yeah
.40 is a bit snappier so people step down to the 9mm. It also has more firearm options than the .40. Bulk ammo buys are another consideration.
A benefit is in most cases you can buy a barrel and if it needs it a mag swap and your .40 can fire 357 sig... But that is a bit of a range toy aspect than defensive carry.

Many people think the 45's benefits in how big a hole it makes someone is negligible compared to the 9mm. When you take magazine capacity and recoil into account these people choose the 9mm every time.
The difference between the 40 and the 9 in hole size is even less and you have to deal with more recoil and less capacity again (though not as dramatic a difference).
If you have to have more power (hate using that word), you wont really notice it until you get to 10mm/357 when compared to the 9mm

Hi /k/, I'm writing a short story and I need your help with a premise. Is there any conceivable reason that three enlisted privates in any branch of the US military would be dicking around in the sand dunes of some Middle Eastern shithole with no backup or base in sight? Would they have been sent out on patrol? Would they be scouting for mines or IEDs, or do robots and shit do that already? The reason itself doesn't really matter, I just need a plausible, non-Hollywood justification for three privates to be out there by themselves.

I've heard stories about tanks being disabled in the middle of a combat zone, and they heard RPGs hitting them like "thud.... thud" and I recall hearing about one tank crew in a disabled tank taking over 50 RPG and missile hits.

So, as I've learned, basically everything the general population believes about a modern nuclear war is wrong. It will not end the world, it would not cause a nuclear winter or firestorms, civilian losses would not be much bigger than in WWII, and so on.
