I'm a hasguns from one of the worst states for gun owners, New Jersey. I have my FPIC so I can buy long guns without a problem (besides shitty NJ NICS that takes an hour), but besides that it's not too bad. We do, however, have a long list of "assault weapons" which are long guns banned by name. If it's a popular "military" model such as the AR-15, AK series, or FAL, it's definitely banned by name. However, we can have weapons that have different names provided that they don't have more than one "evil feature" with a detachable magazine.
What does /k/ recommend as a semi-automatic rifle in a reasonable price range for performance? I own an M39 nugget and practice technique with that but would also like something more practical and reliable. I know lots of people have AR-15 style rifles here, but .223/5.56 are both stupidly-pricey for the performance you get from what I understand... most of what I know is about milsurp, though, so I could be wrong. It seems like a pain in the ass to find an AR upper without a threaded barrel, too, same for AK's besides the stupidly-expensive converted Saigas.

300BLK outperforms any pistol caliber you can put up against it even out of a 4.5in barrel.
I think you could do a through-grip magazine that would fit in a medium sized hand alright and get 18+1 rds in double stack.
Then you'd have caliber commonality with a rife round as well and could have a complete GTW/SHTF system and save massively on SAWC by sharing calibers in both your LR and SR/PD weapons.

I'd go with the frogs. Because there is no way in hell i'd ever work with the maccaronis. I also think they would win the ground war, though the Italian surface fleet would effectively control the mediterranean sea.
Since this scenario is laughably one-sided in favor of France, I'm gonna tweak it a bit.

I'll eventually get both. I have a Sig P239 and want a P226 to go along with it. But I also have a S&W 442 and want a nice S&W .357 magnum to go along with that as well.
I just can't decide what to get first because the other might be a while before I pick it up.
A P226 is the more prwctocalt weapon. If you're looking for a practical handgun for defensive or training use, buying a Model 27 over a modern autoloader would be silly.
If you're looking to make the purchase about collectibility, 'soul,' casual range fun, or class, then I can't convince you to not to get an M27.
There are fewer fun things than spending an afternoon at the range with a revolver.
