>>52042547
Shaving is overrated.
On the Turkish Airlines flight yesterday there was an attendant and she had very dense hair growth on her cheeks, sideburns almost.
I think it's good she didn't shave. If she did she would have to do it daily as stubble all over would look silly.

That's not nature. That's nasty outdoors shit.
Nature is the whiff of a soft pillow of pubic hair you press your face into before going down on her.
Nature is the hair under her armpit you can twirl around with your finger while you are spooning in bed.
Nature are the little sideburns you gently caress as her head is leaning on your shoulder.
Nature is those few odd leg hairs that stick out through the tight weave of her nylon pantyhose.

>>52045626
>I tend to assume that Brazilians who speak English are the sons of senior civil servants.
Why though? You relate their proficiency in English to paid courses/special education?
>>52046051
Lolicon
A condensed version of 'Lolita Complex' introduced by Japanese Anime culture, originally derived from Nabokov's novel, Lolita, Lolicon refers to an individual's attraction, usually sexual in nature, towards girls between the ages of 12 and 16. The 'm' at the end of the word, which should be Lolicom, is naturally linguistically altered for ease of speech, as the English language has significantly more words ending with the 'n' consonant.
Lolita = young girl
Lolicon = pedophile
People who love lolicons = people who love pedophiles
>>52045942
really? i don't really care too much about exams, so my learning experience has been pretty easy so far
I mean, I never studied grammar (the only reason I'm studying japanese is to be able to read stuff), so all I have to do is study a bit of vocabulary (using anki) and read stuff, that's it
which is basically how I've learnt english
>>52046222
How did you learn without studying grammar?
>>52046310
Not >>52046222, but osmosis.
>>52046176
>Lolicon refers to an individual's attraction, usually sexual in nature, towards girls between the ages of 12 and 16
>pedo
Pedophilia or paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children, generally age 11 years or younger
>>52046371
Sure, there's a difference. My main point is that lolicon is not referring to a young girl
>>52046310
watched anime for a bit, then i noticed that I knew quite a few words and that I understood the "flow" of the language, then I started studying vocabulary
same for english, but instead of anime, I watched series and films
>>52046120
>Why though? You relate their proficiency in English to paid courses/special education?
Yes. Why are you acting like that doesn't make sense?
>>52045893
Have you ever been to Japan?
Even if the train is packed, people will be reluctant to sit next to you if you are a foreigner.
And you can feel that Japanese people are uneasy if you take a vacant seat next to them.
He was implying that, with that in mind, the chances of you finding a Japanese girlfriend during your studies in Japan might be more unlikely than you had imagined.

I feel like standing than sitting most of the time even when the train/bus is almost empty. It's just that I'm in a mood like that and not that I'm trying to avoid sitting next to you. I don't pay much attention to others so I probably don't even notice that you are foreigner. I think most people are like that? People don't care about you as much as you think they do.
>>52049018
This is what they tell themselves.
I get an extra bit of pain when I'm sitting on the back part with two seats to a thing. And mine is the only one with an extra one open. It's not a trivial thing at all. It's the way people speak when they intend to offend you. It's not like someone is going around getting pissed because of the extra letter dude. It's because that letter makes the word that follows a straight up slur. It means the person who said it is trying to offend actively.
>>52052764
Are you from the States? I don't think many people would consider "He's a Jew" to be a pejorative, and "he's a gay" doesn't really make much sense to me (since no one outside of 1950s Alabama has ever said "he's a gay")

I know what you mean but I took a linguistics half semester course focused on pejorative language in which there were four Jewish people. Although all agreed that they prefer he is Jewish, half of them found no offense if they were described with "he is a Jew"

>>52053045
You might just not be familiar enough with the speech pattern I'm talking about and how it's used. It's not projection or sensitivity. Using the a sometimes functions to make a term pejorative. It's just how it sounds to speakers familiar with the speech pattern. There nothing you can say about it to make the way the usage is interpreted by native speakers change. It's like taking a swear word that corresponds to a mundane word in another language and trying to argue that it shouldn't be considered a swear word because in another language it means something like rice. This is simply how the words are used and interpreted. By large swaths of competent speakers. Not by sensitive sjws on tumblr

sure, I might not be as familiar with the language as a native speaker is, but first, english isn't equal everywhere, so this use of "a" might be offensive somewhere, but it might not be offensive in other places
and even though i'm not so familiar with english, i'm capable of logical thinking, and my logical thinking makes me believe that it isn't offensive, at least not as slur
also, by reading people's comments, i'd think that it really doesn't change anything
>Although all agreed that they prefer he is Jewish, half of them found no offense if they were described with "he is a Jew"
>Are you from the States? I don't think many people would consider "He's a Jew" to be a pejorative

There are people who are Japanese and have the same experience as you. So I don't think it really has to do with your ethnicity and that's my point. You can read their stories if you look for it in Japanese. But honesty they all sound like they are just being overly self-conscious.
>>52053006
Yes I am. I've never heard homosexual being not pc but maybe these are linguistic intuitions only Americans have. That might be the case. But things like
He's a gay
He's a Jew
He's an autistic
He's a Chinese
He's a Japanese
While not all of them are strictly speaking grammatically correct, they sound like natural English to me and from what I learned in that class, to many people they give a sense that the person speaking is slurring these groups with these phrasings. More than their alternatives would indicate
But again maybe that's just an American intuition.

You can't use logical thinking to determine whether something sounds offensive or not. Literally what are you talking about.
Can you logically discern the meaning of any grammatical pattern you have never seen before? No
It's impossible. You simply have to accept that it means what people believe it means. I honestly don't have any clue how to explain this to you lol.
What?
It makes even less sense to argue that a grammatical structure shouldn't mean what it means because of something.
I honestly don't know anymore lol.
>>52053555
I think you're kinda right, but "pejorative" seems like kind of a strong term. They sound more blunt or insensitive rather than offensive to me.
>>52053466
It's only deemed as offensive now because a multitude of over sensitive wankers who are in a position of influence (unfortunately) in places such as politics, schools, universities and media decided it is offensive without bothering to ask for our opinion. Thus anyone who expresses an opinion contrary to this is browbeaten into submission.
>>52053632

>>52053748
I think the opinions consulted were those of people who in real life take offense to these ways of speaking. But in any case what the Brazilian is doing makes no sense. If a group of competent speakers of a language agree a certain grammatical structure means a certain thing, there's no logical argument to made about it meaning otherwise or about how it should mean something else. That's not how grammar works

huh? what are you talking about? it's a grammatical pattern which I HAVE seen before,
is it something that is taught at schools? no, right? if it was, you would have sent me an article which talks about it. also, you don't learn that those things sound pejorative because that's not a fact, that's how some people perceive it, that's being oversensitive, you can't even apply what you are saying in a way that makes sense, all you're saying is that "some words get more offensive with an a, others don't" which are those words? who decides what are those words? based on what?
>>52053853
>If a group of competent speakers of a language agree a certain grammatical structure means a certain thing
no group of anything is agreeing with anything, you're the only one saying that.
>>52053957
That's not what I'm saying. But I am saying that if you're speaking to a group of Ebonics speakers, you have a deep misunderstanding about language if you think you can convince them by logical means that their way of saying something means something else.

Am I being trolled?
Who decided that anything means anything in a language? Like ever? People use words and speech patterns and they acquire meaning. No one decides this. And the fact that I can't give you a rule about which words turn out to be offensive if you use them a certain way doesn't mean that it doesn't really happen. There's not always a rule. Do you have irregular verbs in your native language? Or words you can't use in Portugal cause they would mean something else? Would it cross your mind to argue with a Portuguese person that a certain word doesn't have the effect they think it does?

It's not about choosing to be offended bro. It's that the grammatical structure is used to offend by people. That's the meaning it's acquired in America anyway. It indicates that the speaker may be biased in some way. You don't even have to take offense. You just have to know that the speaker is using a way of speaking that is used to offend. You can realize that without being actually offended. The a makes that difference even though you think it shouldn't because that's simply how people take it to mean.
Language is not all about what the speaker intends. Communicating ideas involves speaking so that your audience understands. You can't sit there and say whatever you please and say "but this is what I mean! You're choosing to misunderstand me!"
That's just not how it works. The way your audience will receive the message matters. If you don't think it does, you don't have a reason to speak out loud to begin with.

the thing is, a few people you know, have told you that using "a" before a word makes said word sound more offensive to them, but there are other people who wouldn't give a shit about that.
you said that "It's that the grammatical structure is used to offend by people" ok, what are the rules that dictate that grammatical structure? are you saying that language doesn't follow any rules?
and sure, languages aren't only about what the speaker intends, but it's not all about what the listener receives as well
The only thing i'm questioning is the existence of said "grammatical structure", if you can prove it to me that it exists, i'll shut the fuck up, otherwise, don't bother answering
if you're going to say "it can't be documented" or something like that, that i'll say it's bullshit, because people need to have an agreement on what words mean, and on how certain "grammatical structures" make them sound, otherwise there is no point to language

I'm telling you that American speakers of English take that to mean offense. I gave four people as an example because that's what I have, beside my intuition as a native English speaker from the United States. Im pretty sure we are all on the same page in general. Being on the same page here means that most Americans will know that that phrasing is usually used to cause offense. They may not all take offense. But we mostly all know that it is meant to cause it. This is how language works. Not every thing in every language is documented, but I'm sure you can think of examples in your language that are like this.
If I gave you some grammatically correct sentence in Portuguese with what I think is it English translation and the meanings don't match, would you listen to me if I insisted that they should match? Would you accept it if I asked you for a survey of brazilians proving they agree with you in that the meaning isn't what I think it is? If not, I don't see why you're doing this to me now...
