This is an open question to the artists here that make their living on commission and Patreon based artists and in no way am I attacking you, I'm just curious.

I have a 9-5 job and I do art in my free time. Those of you who's entire income come from commissions and patreon payment, is it working out for you? Do you plan to do this for the rest of your lives? Do you have backup plans in case you're payments dry up?

How do actual artists feel about the works of Bob Ross? Is he just a hack?
23 posts and 3 images submitted.

His work is kitschy and formulaic and no serious artist sees his work as having any artistic value. I think most artists though think he's a really nice dude who helped a lot of people get interested in art and helped to break down the barrier that art is inaccessible or only for "talented" people.
>>
>>2552066
You can't honestly say that he wasn't talented. Doesn't he have paintings that he legitamately worked on, not just in half an hour?

>let me teach you how to make "art"

>Never understood the people that can't learn >to draw by themselves, it's fucking trial and >error
>I want my drawing to look lake "this"
>try
>Well it doesn't look good, it looks like shit
>why?
>Oh my lines are shit

>I will draw a human
>draw
>wow my human looks like shit
>why?
>looks at a real person
>oh eyes are not a perfect circle
>draw again

>I want to make this color
>mix shit up

Is this statement valid or it's pure bullshit?

you need method, method, method. You can find it by yourself, but others have before you, and can teach you, thereby making learning more efficient.

That's why books exist, because there was somebody that did exactly the same thing, and they wrote books to prevent other people from making the same mistakes.

It says a lot when I'm more comfortable when you cut to this Dillon guy.

Your sound sucks
Your footage sucks
Your jokes and smug ass commentary makes me wince more then anything I've ever experienced.

It's actually amazing how you can produce something so low quality while copying the current meme format, which will most likely die out in the next 6 months or so.

You don't have the tech, you don't have the personality and you certainly don't have any original ideas. "Just keep uploading" won't work in your case.

please end it now.

you can also try drawpile http://drawpile.net/
but that's software you have to install, and you probably need to use hamachi with it, if you don't have a port forwarded. but it's much better than any of the online variants, imo.
>>
Are you talking about drawpile?

where is a good place to learn anatomy like this? i cant seem to get the jist of it, are there any courses you would recommend? tutorials or anything of that sort?

Real life. Get your girl friend to model for you. Say it's for art. There's no problems. Just draw what you see until you get it.

>>For figure drawing, you could continue with Vilppu, Loomis and Hampton. Choosing between these is a matter of personal preference, but for best results, study them all, starting with the one that appeals to you the most.

> Vilppu is best known for his video lectures, but you could also go through his book The Vilppu Drawing Manual.

>As for Loomis, after Fun with a Pencil, go to Figure Drawing for All It's Worth and Drawing the Head and Hands.

>Then there is Figure Drawing: Design and Invention by Michael Hampton.

>Focus on getting proportions right. All your artworks and studies should start with a solid construction base. Practicing gestures will keep your figures fluent and lively, whilst studying anatomy will make them look somewhat human.

>Construction is useful for any subject. When studying from life or reference, you break the subject down into simple shapes. When drawing from imagination, you reverse this thinking process: you start with a basic structure to construct the whole.

Hello /ic/,
I'm trying to migrate from digital illustration to comic book coloring.
Could you guys critique this one piece for me?
I'm also in need for advices of how to get in this kind of industry, how to find an agent and so on. Another thing, I'm from a third world country, how should I go about getting international work?
If this type of thread is not allowed, I'll have it deleted.
Thanks in advance

aren't they literally the same thing
>>
>>2552657
Indeed they're similar, but all my illustration work has been around my country and pays very little.
My will is to work with comic book coloring for people who could pay in dollars.

Books about clothing and their physics?

It's not worth buying a book on folds to be honest. You are better off just understanding that drapery is determined by three things--the form underneath it, tension points/slack, and the material it's made out of (thick? thin? stiff?).

Some people classify folds into categories, I think Bridgman is the first I've seen to come up with the 7 fold types, but I actually prefer these drawings to his of them: http://www.mightyartdemos.com/mightyartdemos-bradley.html

So yeah, understand the basic principles behind it, then do studies from life and photos. You will quickly start to understand how clothing typically arranges itself. It's really not as complex as some people think it is.
>>
>>2552596
I hope you're right, anon, because you're making it sound simpler than it might be.
>>
>>2552599
Well it's simple enough, but that doesn't mean it is super easy. To lose weight you just need to eat fewer calories, which is a simple idea but tough to do.

If you already have decent drawing skills though then learning drapery isn't as hard as some people make it out to be. At least in my opinion.

Also drapery is super easy to find ref on, either in life or from photos. So that alone makes it a lot easier.
