Got directed here. How does one improve character designs?
>>2463143
To develop original character designs is a really difficult thing, mainly because there are so many fictional characters out there.
My best advice: develop your characters personality thoroughly and have a few details that are kind of obscure to that particular individual. Play it up, make it important to the viewer.
As long as you have confidence in your lines, it'll work. Though, it looks like you might have to study and practice up on human anatomy. The more you do it the better your lines look.
Hope this helps.
First off you need to get good at drawing
Read the sticky
start drawing from life first before doing alternative styles.
Every time I make a brush stroke Photoshop cs6 just gets slower and slower
like the program starts off just fine but the more I work on it the slower it gets
is anyone else having this problem? any solutions?
Check on the Task Manager if your memory is fully used or not. Also, what kind of "slowing down" do you mean ? Is it constantly slow, does it have constant small freezes ? Does only the program slow down or the entire computer ? Otherwise google your problem, it's usually quite helpful.
>>2463167
Its not constantly slow, but the more brush strokes I make it gets slower for some reason, and the bigger the canvas and brush the worse this shit gets
and it goes from like a slight brush lag to fucking up the whole program the more I do it
>>2462550
Set up "Performance settings" someting's fucked in there, an you might wanna decrese GPU usage to basic.
What do you guys do when you have drawer's block? In need of inspiration.
>>2464891
Fucking stop whining and draw anything.
>Often a creative block comes from an inability to stay focused on just one task at hand. Your mind feels overwhelmed or distracted by too many things. "Your brain feels like a big knot, and you only think of your kitchen that needs a cleaning," says German-based photographer Matthias Heiderich in Krysa's book. "It makes sense to stop working then, and to re-sharpen the senses."
>Heiderich's solution is what he calls "Once Around the Block," inspired by the name of a song by musician Badly Drawn Boy. Simply getting out of your chair, exploring your own neighborhood, paying attention to the houses and sidewalks and shop windows rather than staying stuck in your head and your workspace, can help reenergize you. "Trying to see the banal objects around you in a new light can be a good brain boost," he says.
>Having endless possibilities to choose from can be overwhelming and ultimately lead to a block. That's why setting rules or parameters for yourself can help you start thinking creatively without getting lost in the wilderness of possibilities.
Who else is sick of fellow artists who take themselves way too seriously and have a holier-than-thou attitude and put down people who aren't as "dedicated" as they are
This shit is supposed to be fun
And it's all subjective
So glad I'm bout to graduate art school
is this what you need to tell yourself since your art is terrible

Hey /ic/, I recently finished this painting. It's acrylic on canvas, for a Bob Marley tribute event.what do you think?
>>2463920
it's good enough to get compliments from your mom and friends, so that's positive
>>2463931
Ok, but what's wrong with it? You're response is hardly constructive. What would you have done differently?
>>2463920
Looks more like Nick Cage dressed up as Bob Marley, than it does Bob Marley. :^)
Hey /ic/, just finished my first bust. What do you think?

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?
>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].
What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.
>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.
What happens if I'm eliminated?
>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.
How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?
>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.
Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?
>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

I want to know what it needs/shouldn't have
>inb4 a bunch of jealous butthurt about minor errors
seriously though, its usually decent but they also do a whole lot of stupid shit.
It depends on which splash art you talk about. On average they're pretty decent, good composition, decent anatomy, good choice in colors and design.
but then you get shit like this.
The newer stuff is great, the older stuff is trash. I especially like the new Gangplank artwork.
This is OP what about cho' gath's anatomy? Do you think it's to stickly?
So my interest in improving my art skills has been primarily driven by creating monsters.
I've gotten into ink, acrylic and oil paint, watercolor and colored pencil.
I do enjoy art still, however I kind of feel like I'm a fake for not studying figures and facial anatomy.
Thoughts?
My thoughts:
You're really young. As you grow older and apprehension mounts (as you ralize your deficiencies) self-discipline takes over as the main motor of your daily practice in joy's stead. Use your brain to find subjects that need tackling, don't listen to anxiety. Doodling is srs business, eyes on the prize and push on.
You'll fuck yourself if you don't leave the monster comfort zone. I had that too, it's a comfort zone. Make humie monsters and humies. This is a very anthropocentric discipline, the human figure is the most familiar form to your viewers, you'll be judged by it and the standards are harsh by comparison to everything else.
>>2464366
That picture is disgustingly ugly.
>>2464366
Study figures and facial anatomy then, a lot more than you think can be applied to what you are doing.
Even an hour a day can go a long way, you'd want to focus most of your energy to studying animals, character design and things like that however.
I was wondering if anyone has used this 22inch monoprice digital-screen tablet? I can't find but one obvious company paid sponser shit review.
I have an XL large Wacom 4 Pro but its not doing well anymore not sure whats going on. But I want to move onto a screen tablet now.
I have used monoprice tablets in the past and they where easily on par with wacom so I know they are fine there... But
I know nothing about monoprice when it comes to their screens. I know this "newest" one fixed most issues the others had. And i'm aware it lacks some features wacoms have which I don't need, I use keyboard short cuts anyway...
I want to remove the disconnect from my hands and eyes to a screen. My biggest concern is distance from screen to drawing...And how it preforms for people who've managed to use it. I'm hoping someone here will have used it... 499.99 is certainly better than 1,899 for the wacom one. I could use that money saved to buy other art stuff I want and need.
>>2462734
I've been looking for many alternatives and over researched for pretty much all cintiq alternatives and i always find things like, bad drivers that don't work with all
art programs, lines lag and create polygons when drawing too slowly, dead spots on the screen as you can see the pixels but when you pass your pen from the spot it
does not register, overheating, bad colors but that's almost to be expected, completely broken in like 3-4 months, i've had my intuos 4 for 6 years and it works great so that is really scary.
Now not even wacom is perfect, but if 2k can't get you perfection imagine what the 400 dollars chink shit will get you, i ended up getting a cintiq 13HD and its great,
i do comics and inking so the space feels plenty for me, just like the space i have with paper.
>>2463022
nice try wacom of nippon
Thread for questions that don't need their own
Is there any real advantage to Clip Studio Paint over Photoshop or SAI? I was interested in getting PRO for the animator feature but the full version is only for EX.
Which tablet should I buy? Should be affordable, but not frustrating to work with
My hand's starting to hurt from drawing. It's not in my wrist it's I think in the mass below my thumb. Has this happened to somebody/does it matter or is it just muscles getting worn out that'll get strong again?
