I'm a typeface designer and I have barely any online presence... I make some extra income each month from my fonts without any self promotion, but I'm looking to make a big jump in marketing myself better. Trying to think of some decent promotion ideas but I don't know my audience too well. So who here buys fonts? Where do you do it? What's your spending habits w/ fonts?
Freelance student no unless requested by client. Include font cost in bill.
Gotta convince the boss it's worth the money and worth part of the client's budget. The more expensive or restrictive the less likely we are to license it. Licenses involving max number of page views are often an instant 'nope'. Typography RSVP gotta get paid, too though! Lost Type does a great job as far as getting notoriety out there for your work. Consider partnering up with a site like that or better yet build your own site and give away one or two weights of one of your more robust type sets. I will say we are more likely to get a license if the client...

Does anyone know of a program that makes html5 zoomable images, I mean I have a really large image and want to show people it but have them be able to zoom into it like google maps where it loads in the next layer.
Something like Pano2vr does

Looking to have something better than my current design, can someone help? Its supposed to be a slow shark, I get it's pretty spot on but am looking for something more sleek and less potato. Any help appreciated
That's pretty funny thanks!
Not sure where to put this, but you guys seems like a clever bunch. Im sure you have some ideas.
I got those speakers and I just bought those roundd lamps in which I fitted some Philips Hue light bulbs.
Thing is, it looks like an enlarged playstation move thingie.
Should I move it?
Seems kind of strange to put a lamp there when you've already got that TV backlight thingie. Might look nicer if it was beside a couch or something, assuming there's a couch facing that TV.
I get your point. I was trying to get the lamps working together with the Ambilight through an app. It kinda works, but not really.. i got 3 of those lamps. One next to my right side.

Does anyone here know how to make a custom t-shirt as similar to this one as possible? Biggest problem I ran into is where to find a site that would let me add that white extension to the bottom of the shirt.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You're not going to find a print-on-demand site that will print outside a 14x20in or so area.
Most print on demand sites are using DTG (direct to garment) printers, not screening.
What you want done would have to be done by the traditional silk screening process or with sublimation printing, etc. There's going to be set up costs and minimums on how few shirts need to be created. This is going to be much more expensive than a one-off print.
>>246908
What numbers are we looking at?
I could go for a dozen or so but if it's in the hundreds fuck that.
>>246909
shop i use to work at had a minimum of 50.
Hi, I'm looking for an illustrator file with a box die cut as the one in the attached image - or something similar. Thanks
Seems very simple. If you don't have Illustrator, just download free Inkscape and draw it there. You can then export to an Illustrator file.
>>246905
>Inkscape
isn't it possible to find one and download it?
I'm just getting into photo editing
is there a way I can separate transparent objects from their background?
in this picture I'm trying to remove the background from under the motorbikes windshield, and I'm not sure if it can be done
no you gotta cut it out all by hand.
after it u can filll the form with some blue/white layer and lower the transparency to create a the illusion of a windshield maybe
>>246879
maybe I should just lower the opacity of the areas that arn't marked with hard colour as well, so I'm only filling the edged with white to outline it
>>246877
try color range or quick selection or pen tool with bezier curves by hand.

Im looking for projection mapping software that can work together with Unity or just being able to manipulate the desktop screen.
Is there such a program available?
Hi, I'm working on a project. Could someone send me an illustrator or photoshop file with type compositions?
I've attached a file to better explain what I'm looking for.
Thanks
So you're asking us to do your homework for you.
Nah. I had a similar project in my first year of uni and if you can't handle something as simple as that you should seriously reconsider your career choice.
>>246749
I'm not studying design. I'm doing a marketing course, but have to take a design credit in our third year.
>>246751
you just overlap letters to create interesting shapes
should take you 15-20min to come up with a bunch of them.
Geometry art. How does one generate these?
Illustrator -> Make a large colorless square of 8000 x 8000, select LAYER Appearance -> Distort & Transform -> Rotation: 360 / X, Copies: X.

>illustrator

As you can tell im obviously shit at GD but this is what i have in mind for a logo. Any idea or improvements? im trying to have a Katakana 'DA' as the 'D' for dank.

I want to take a movie, and use a color average from one frame every minute to make a gradient. Whats the fastest way to do this?
Pic Unrelated.
You're not explaining enough. What do you mean by gradient?
If you want to get an approximate color average of a single frame you can use ffmpeg and scale to 1x1 while experimenting with scaling algos.
I'm attaching an example, but this one was scaled to 30x1 and then scaled back. 1x1 would have a single color per every frame.
I don't understand what you want to do after that.
>>246726
I'm talking about making a single gradient from a movie, using color average from one frame every minute.
>>246740
This sounds like an absolute shit idea.
Question about Contemporary Design.
Is this actually GOOD design or is it just a fad?
I mean its okay, everyone does it, it seems to be the quality-standard, people like it because it looks hip and young, but I think it kinda lacks soul in the sense its sterile, its the same throughout/everyone is on the bandwagon doing pretty much the same.
I have the feeling when people look back on it in a decade or two they will think about some stereotype(some person in a loft sitting at an apple computer wearing big rimmed glasses, atleast thats the picture I get)...

>>246637
And I didnt particularly meant that picture(before someone rambles about the picture in my opening post) but the state of todays design in general.
>>246637
You need to be more specific because contemporary design has existed about as long as design has, like since Bauhaus.
>>246639
Its hard to define it since you cant just put it into neat categories and its probably "too soon"
In two decades or more it will be just called something or just "typical 2010design" and everyone gets it. When I say 50s or 60s design everyone knows what I am talking about.
Advice for recent liberal arts (philosophy) graduate?
Self-taught Adobe CS, Blender, Unity3d for 5+ years. Small pool of completed freelance projects.
Best way to compete with these art school kids in the junior / entry level design market?
>learn history
>read books
>learn typography
>make a bunch of faux-freelance projects to >showcase abilities

pretty rad
what program do I use to make these shapes?
I'd prefer if i didn't have to do them by hand, or make them 'from scratch' if you know what I mean, something like a drag and drop or w/e.
>>246577
>Drag and drop art
Power Point.
>>246578
well i know in indesign i can drag and drop all those circles and triangles, but not some of the more 3d or complicated stuff
