Nobody gives a shit about them, so it's easy to retcon and/or ignore the stuff that isn't working.

The only thing that would really be required to make them more marketable is to make people care about the characters which, granted, is a bit tough considering none of the characters are that interesting to start with.

It's baffling to me how bad Simpsons has gotten.

Like, I check in on the new seasons from time to time just to see where it's going, and it just keeps getting worse. The animation is lazy, the stories are half-assed, and there isn't a single person in this world who understands the characters less than the writers. I only watch like one episode a season, and usually the one that looks the least terrible, but it just keeps getting worse.
