Depends on the pokemon
For the kalos starters, delphox would do well with something like sheer force since it'd presumably be a fast but frail attacker (although flavor wise it doesn't fit), while greninja would probably be best off keeping protean

I know they're simply picking popular pokemon, loading up the game with mascot worthy fan favourites, but it feels so boring and a little disappointing that this is the first time we're getting fully fledged 3D movement and animations, and they're all similar bodytypes and moves.is it just coincidence the most popular pokemon are humanoids anyway?

I hear the same thing from the thread and the OU chatroom, which I'm relieved about. Gothitelle was getting really annoying to address. I don't really care one way or another for Mega Sableye. I'd be happy to see it go since it's the cover page and binding of stall, but I don't think it's broken enough to warrant a ban.

You're discrediting the game based on the rare appearance of new pokemon. But you're not keeping in mind that up to that point in the "lore" these new pokemon are new discoveries to the pokeworld, so why would everyone have them? You may have heard it said before but johto and it's gym leaders are really a continuation or "expansion" of pokemon red and blue, it's a sequel of Kanto, it's not a feature presentation meant to be packaged completely on its own like new regions are.
the point of pokemon back then was finding the new ones, including legendaries and not just getting them handed out to you

It seems likely that they saved some new pokemon for Kanto because they wanted to add something new for the player to find when you revisited the old games. That said, I think they should have used other pokemon instead, because fire and dark types are not by any means commonplace in johto.
The low levels were needed to balance the postgame content (to negate having the post e4 gyms being too high leveled), but I agree that they could have created a better flow pre e4, especially between the 6th and 8th gym.

I doubt it will have any serious reveal but if its January issue then they might tease the possible January announcement. Afterall XY was announced in January so that wouldnt be weird at all.
