It's because of the fact that Pokemon is pretty much universal, existing outside of Japan and spread around the world. Medabots, in comparison, is pretty much a niche Japanese series, and they can get away with something like this.

Not exact, but Hierophants dealt with the sacred arcane in Ancient Greece (Psychic types kinda fit that) and most modern Tarot cards have that card look like a Pope (Slowking's crown looks like a Papal tiara or Miter).
