The only thing they should retcon about it are the flipping stones, before the entire planet gets covered in them.
This thing. It's literally a car. You can take a real world big cat, put a gem on its forehead and it will literally be this Pokemon. Even the name is iust a car breed name. It's even the same height as your regular puma.
You can say that Herdier and Pidove are literally cartoon versions of a dog and a pigeon, but Persian is just a drawing of a cat, they didn't even try to make the body cartoony, they just drew a cat and slapped anime eyes on it.

I nickname all of my pokemons after food. HM slaves, mains and the unborn eggs. I joke that if worst came to worst then I would have to eat them. Some steel pokemons I name after eating utensils.
I have to expand my culinary expertise every new generation to come up with new names, sometimes I have to stop playing and google dishes before I can name a pokemon.
There's no real trend. Sometimes I name them after food, sometimes dead people, sometimes I go with puns. On rare occasions I will go for a fandom reference.
I have a Wash Rotom named Dousing MCHN.
