Alright guys I'm in the middle of a French game in vanilla HOI3, since it's on another computer I unfortunately cannot post screenshots at the time.
Anyway, it's early 1940 and I have both Spain and Italy in the Allies since 1938. Now I managed to push up to a Karlssruhe-Stutgart-Ulm-Austria frontline in fall 1939 with my Eastern Army and the Southern Army (Alps Army + African units) attacking from Italy with ample Italian and Spanish support + the British Gibraltar Forces.
It was going pretty well since my infantry was equipped with modern equipement as well as AT and Artillery support brigades. They were able to hold the lines while my reformed&modernized 1st and 2nd Motorized Corps advanced.
The problem came when the AI sent all of its air unity from Poland back to the western front. My units started losing morale very quickly and I had to retreat back to the Maginot line (in orderly fashion tahankfully, no unity were lost).
Now I am constructing interceptors and TACs but they wont be ready till June. Any ideas on how to contain the German Blitz through April-May and afterwards?
Note that I did construct additional fortifications on the Luxemburg and Belgian borders (about up to Sedan).
Pls help, I dont want to have to evacutae to NA like in my last France game.

I'm trying to make EU4 even slightly less shit/blobby/easy, and make its warfare more realistic and so far I'm actually liking the results. I've made combat a lot faster and chaotic, made standing armies a huge money dump in the early game so you're basically stuck with mercs or raising forces during the war. War Exhaustion finally actually fucking matters, battles actually give you good warscore and you don't have to carpet siege an entire country to take a single province anymore. No more weird arbitrary forcelimit because you simply can't afford to even consider a forcelimit. Money actually matters.

Because the Republic was hijacked, essentially. A left-leaning government was democratically elected, reactionary forces (much of which was composed of the Republic's armed forces, but also right wing and fascist groups) attempted a coup, and the Republic raised militias (most of which were composed of anarchist and communist groups) to bolster its forces. Civil war does a great job at radicalizing and galvanizing positions, too, and Soviet influence did its part on the Republic. Orwell (who fought as a volunteer) was very much a socialist, but despised totalitarianism (to the point where 1984 and Animal Farm coined most terms and metaphors we use to talk about it) - he ends up describing a bunch of his disillusions with the republicans in some of his essays. "Looking back on the Spanish war" is a fascinating read.

If you invest and there's no competition you get a huge diplomacy bonus making them way easier to sphere. Also you get half of their RGO output. That last part gets split up depending on how much is invested and by who, for example if you and Austria both invest 5k then you both get 25% of it's shit.
First thing I do is build railroads everywhere that lest me when I research experimental railroads, if only to make it harder for other nations to invest diplomacy.
