There wasn't that much opposition to EU4. People shitposted about CK2 a lot but eventually warmed up to it. Victoria 2 on release was one of the worst Paradox games in history and yet it's the default that most people here resort to now.

I've kind of been toying with the idea of starting an open source engine replacement project for Victoria 2. Probably based on HPM instead of vanilla. At least to begin with you would use the original game assets, and try to recreate the hardcoded functionality with ideally improved AI and economy logic. Later on what these engine recreations tend to do is replace the assets so you can decouple the game completely from the original, and start adding new features and depth. I like the idea in theory but idk if it's better than just starting from scratch. I'm probably too lazy to get it actually started, and it would take years to be playable state anyway

Development was going slowly because of the ambition of the project and no deadlines were being met in a satisfactory manner, it would have probably needed to come out at the same time as EUIV with how things were going if it wanted to look good, and it's never a good idea to release two games that would directly compete with each other.
We can assume the same thing Happened to EvW with the projected plans for HOI4. Something about the Clausewitz engine makes it difficult to replicate the modding wonders that the FtG, AoD, and Darkest Hour people did with the Europa Engine.

I'm adding three custom nations to South East Asia. First is a Wokou nation on Taiwan to represent the Japanese pirate who terrorized Korea and China for centuries (pic related).

There's a lot of cool things I can do with C++ right now, anything you can think of(that is, if you can tell me HOW the mechanic would work) I can translate into code so that computer will run it. I've been making a rpg/simulator of mountain blade where the AI roam about from town to town and nations go to war.
Ahh, shadow president is another game that's inspiring me to try this.

Sounds easy, but what about getting the unit sprite to be in the center of the #providence, in c++, I would make a script to find the center of the odd shaped tiles then tell the sprite to be in those coordinates. In unity, I don't know how I could communicate the tile information to cpp files so that they could do the work, then send that information back to tell unity where the sprite needs to be. It can be done, but requires learning how to use unity, which I'm not sure I want to do.
