so i got the mod organizer that the pastebin recomended, but everytime i go to launch the game or just exit out from the launcher, i get an error. i don't have any mods loaded up for either time, just tyring to get it to run first at all. i have run the launcher from it's own folder with all the files that came with the download in a seprate folder, along with dropping everything into the same location as the files with the same name, but i still get the error.

there wasn't a readme that went with it, but is there a specific place that i have to put the files to get it to run smoothly?

Having Psy-Panic crash the game in EW/Early LW. It's such a useful tool to keep a dangerous unit out for a turn or two yet the game just went 'NOPE.jpg' most of the time you tried to use it. Quite frustrating to say at least.

LoS problems come as a close second but sometimes I have been saved by some incredible Trick Shots not too different from that one Beagle's Sniper did in this previous stream so it kind of balances out.

Hello guys, I'm quite new to EW and I'm currently trying to decide whether or not to spend money and meld on building MEC Troopers (and the facility to build them). I briefly played EW before and absolutely hated MEC Troopers, I found them to be way too situational because of their lack of cover - I always had to keep them way behind my front line and I could only use them to clean out after my normal units did most of the work. Haven't used them for long though because I stopped playing, so maybe it was just because I wasnt used to the different playstyle of MEC Troopers yet.

Genetic modifications seem quite neat, especially for snipers, so I'll definitely get those. Don't want to invest into MEC Troopers if theyre not that great because I'd r ather spend my meld on gene mods.

Should I invest into MEC Troopers first, given they're more of a gamechanger than subtle changes to your soldiers which come with the gene mods?

Just found out that MECs have a skill called "One For All" which literally makes it a movable high cover shield for my troops. Is a defensive support MEC build viable? One of the things that bug me the most in XCOM is how some maps simply do not offer me high cover options for some encounters. It would be awesome to have a MEC trooper that just soaks up the damage and gives my troops a high cover option to hide behind and get further on the map.

What part of "get shot three times" did you not understand? If an advanced officer and 2 advanced troopers are all behind full indestructible cover, too far away for you to flank, the shit that you can do is pretty limited.

Now playing it slow and defensive is a solid option, except 90% of the missions are on a timer and you don't have time to do that kind of shit, so you're double fucked in these kinds of situations.

And don't even try to come up with an excuse like oh just use your fully leveled psi op lad.

Flash bangs alone are nowhere near enough, still get shot through them a lot. Smoke is still broken isn't it? Suppression never does anything, the enemy just runs through it anyway since the AI in XCOM2 is hyper aggressive and I have never seen the reaction fire from suppression hit anything. Hunker down just means you pass the turn, which like I said is not usually an option when you're on a timed mission. Defensive protocol is not exactly the same since it only benefits a single soldier, rather than the entire group.

Just jumping in here, but do you ever take half cover? I'm not saying its impossible for that one guy to hit, but there are plenty of ways to reduce aim, increase defense, statistically he should miss by a wide margin. So unless you have been singled out by the RNG gods for your sins, single enemies surviving should be a very manageable situation.
And for damage you still have nades, stocks, combat protocol, and shotty rangers.
Aliens survive sometimes, its not optimal, but even on legendary its manageable if everyone is in full cover/flashbangs/hunker/poison/aid protocal etc.

Yeah I suppose, but that's a pretty fringe case. Also, I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as indestrucable cover in X2, at least not in the early missions. If you mean that it takes two nades, then yeah, that can be tricky. Alot of the way you avoid that is with conceal rangers so that you can activate pods on your terms. Obviously plasma nades obliterate any cover, but of course that's not till midgame.

Probably if I had to guess your talking about scenarios where you activate like a lancer pod with 2 lancers + offices because that's pretty tricky since you know the lancers are gonna taze somebody, so you want to take them out, but don't have the tools to do so, 8 hp early is a pretty big deal.

Somethings to remember is that the X2 AI is very predictable, Pretty much univerally even if enemies start in excellent cover, they will change positions (often to less favorable ones) the next turn. ADVENT lancers always melee charge your highest ranked troop with the most hp. Little things like that can help manage bad situations a bit better.

What's the error?
Keep in mind the mod launcher needs the Xcomengine.ini to already exist, and that's only created by running the game from the vanilla launcher at least once. (You don't need to turn on any mods, just get to the main menu.)

Oh there's two separate Halo mods?

I know that there's this fella called Uncle Gunman on Steam who has both the ODST armour pack and Spartan, and when I last checked his screenshots, he has a couple Marine screens. Didn't know the one from my screenshot was a different mod. Also, I couldn't find the one from my pic on the workshop either.

I spoke to the guy who made the reach weapons etc. and he said that he has nindzya/ concentrated baking soda's ODST versions but that they were riddled with rigging errors and that I may as well start afresh, so I did.

Anyway, someone on the workshop asked for the reach ODSTs so once I get the base marines finished it shouldn't be too much work to just add the ODST pieces on top of them.

Also, spotted an issue with the ODST armour. During night ops, or maps where there's a lot of glare\shine due to the lighting, the armour basically changes to a grayish\silver tint. Like in Pic related. And the colour for the armour in pic related is the darkest shade of black available in the colour pallet, and as you can tell, it looks silver\gray.

Will we be seeing a fix for this at a later date?

If you think you've got a grasp on the tactical layer but think managing strategy resources between airgame/tech development is hard, go for the French Quai D'Orsay. Makes managing panic and teching up so much cheaper and easier, meaning you'll have a leg up in general but particularly in the airgame. For most players who are okay at the tactical layer, it's basically THE best bonus. Kinda boring in that sense.

If you feel like an easier tactical earlygame to get yourself settled in, the Brazil one which gives you tactical rigging for Kevlar age is very, verystrong. Also consider the Australia "Per Ardua Ad Astra" one, it's really good but kind of boring because unlike the other ones I've mentioned it doesn't incentivize using new and different strategies or tactics.

Most importantly, choose what seems fun to you.

Its an issue thats going to inevitably hit any game that has progression and gives you more toys to play with as you progress. Simply buffing the enemy and giving them new abilities rarely actually helps as the player can combine all the abilities in a way that makes everything simple.

I know this likely gets asked all the time, but I had two questions as somebody new to the series (concerning enemy unknown/within).
First off, I really want to pick up the vita version, even though it's a port of the IOS version. If I don't mind the obvious system downgrades, is it still a good way to play? I just want to kick back on the couch and play XCOM on my vita, and I never really gave a shit about graphics or waiting for turns.
My second question is concerning the replayability. I'm not asking if it's a sandbox, but can I just keep going without completing the final mission or does the game eventually get to the point where you're fucked and have to end it?

The issue with the vita is that you will only get EU and miss out on EW. EW adds a lot of content and interesting mechanics (like covert ops and MECs) that really help round out the game. But if that doesn't matter to you then it's fine.
As for your other question, yes you can go on without completing the final mission, but not for very long. Eventually you will be overrun by panic simply because that's how the game works.

Go to My Games/XCOM2/XComGame/Config and delete everything inside (if you have the uniform manager mod, then delete everything except XComUniforms.ini). Now verify cache.

If you still have issues look for mods that might be in conflict (the alternative launcher in the OP should show any conflicts).

Still having problems? Wanna try a longshot? Make a backup of your saves, character pool, and uniforms (if you have them/care). Then delete My Games/XCOM2.

You will have to start the game through Steam first, then try the Alt. Mod Launcher.
