From my understanding, the only way to add heads right now is basically to apply a material that makes a head invisible and then add your actual head as a helmet, but from what i'm reading right now this has the limitation of not getting rid of teeth, eyes and eyelashes, which means those would show unless your head is bigger than the default head, which is why the anime heads like

So this bug has existed for me since launch, am I just the only one who gets it or why haven't they fixed it? Are they just lazy with bug fixing? Ridiculously annoying, I have to mute the game every time I'm on the Avenger.

The problem with heads is a bit hard to explain, but basically, there is only 1 head for each gender(actually i don't remember if there's 1 head for each race but whatever), the rest of the heads are created with morphs, which basically means that when you change a head in the game, it isn't loading a different mesh, it's just changing the current one through these "morphs". So basically, you cannot add additional heads to the game because it's simply not how it works, and from my understanding you can't add morph targets either simply because of some limitation of the sdk.

So basically, you're stuck with the default heads in the game, and the work around these anime heads use is to make the game use a head without morph targets and then make it invisible.

With bodies, animations and armor it's all fairly straightforward. There's already a nude mod for example, and that's an entire body replacement, with animations i haven't actually looked into it too much, but i don't think it would be particularly difficult to do, there's even documentation with the SDK about how to import animations into the udk.

That said, there's a grand total of 1 animation mod so far, so i don't think anyone cares or wants to go through the trouble.

Vanilla designs plus all the bazillion mods that are out mean the biggest limitation is your creativity. Make new soldiers with new themes instead of just making Spartan/ODST #159255836 and posting a billion screenshots of it here, we've had way too many of those. Of course you should actually PLAY with what's fun for you though.

When the Marine armor drops on the other hand I'll be hype to see some more screenshots of that, looks way cool. It's just the Spartan/ODST theme that's a bit exhausted.

The only guys who have had any progress with that are the Playable ADVENT guys I guess, but even then they're just taking existing stuff and putting it in a new place. I don't know but there are a LOT of hurdles concercning head animation in particular, everything else meant for a human you can more or less rig onto the XCOM2 skeleton.

You can read up on smarter people than me explaining the head stuff and how to get around it here, but afaik nobody has managed to made a fully animated head prop yet.

I played Arma 2 online with a group. You need some level of coordination in big missions so a group is pretty important there. Small missions are fine with pubs, I suppose. I don't really play much multi anymore. I spend most of my time making missions and scripting the shit out of them.

If you want people to play with, check out Murshun on steam. They do gamenights for tactical games.

I think what bugged me about Alien Hunters the most wasn't the Ruler Reactions or questionable aesthetic choices. It was the aliens they chose to be Rulers.

Viper King makes sense.

Berzerker Queen is just a roided up berzerker with meat tenderizers bolted onto her. Why the hell is she a Ruler? She a mindless smash beast.

Archon King is just an angrier Archon. And considering Archons are just Floaters with a makeover, and Archon King doesn't make any sense.

If we accept that Rulers are made by genetically altering aliens back to their "natural" state, the Archon King makes no goddamn sense, and the only thing separating a "natural" berzerker and an Alien berzerker is that the Alien version is actually somewhat sedated by comparison.

Hmmm, guess I'm not really informed on the matter. I installed one non-steam mod and that worked fine, so I guess its more different for pirated versions. Probably someone else will have to help you, the only thing I can think of is maybe trying the alternate mod manager. It might be that the game doesn't know where to check for mods due to your non-standard installation.

There were issues that I couldn't really solve - for example the knees are screwed up when they bend too far and the textures aren't the best. Not to mention the bulkiness, but I think it's as good as I can get it for an initial release. It's more relief that I've more or less finished it.

Have you fixed the ridiculous shine\colour changing issue with the ODST armour? It switches to a grey\metallic\titanium colour on maps with certain sets of lighting, like night maps.

Like pic related. The helmet and armour is supposed to be the darkest shade of black in the colour pallet, and rather it's grey.

I think this plasma rifle is pretty much done, just gotta make the attachments and ui icons. There's still some tiny details to clean on the textures but overall i think that's the best i can do.

I don't know anything about guns, science or anything really, but i did consider something like that. Since in my headcanon these weapons aren't Xcom weapons and they're not as sophisticated, they have a heatsink-like-thing on the side away from the soldier's face and i even added an fx that shoots heat/vapor/something away from the gun from it, you can see it a bit from it here:
