Personally, I do circular motion. Not sure if either is better now. I guess just try both in training. Don't forget when you have fastest stagger escape enabled. Usually you want it off for fast moves that stagger outside of combos because realistically people won't be able to fastest stagger escape it on reaction. The time it would take to see it and then try to escape means you probably won't get it in time for fastest.

If you have never done ANY coding at least learn a little bit of python to grasp the concept of it. In Unity3D everything you do for your game you will have to manually code. In Unreal Engine 4 they introduced a feature called Blueprint Visual Scripting which is almost like drag and drop coding (You still however need to understand coding on a conceptual level)

Not really. In Street Fighter and other fighting games you can poke someone to death. In DS its much harder because damage is dealt both in permanent and white life. White life damage recovers over time, so if you try to poke your opponent to death they can recover a lot of their health just by running away.

Combos deal a lot more damage than pokes. You can't wear an opponent down easily with good pokes and counter hits like you can in other fighting games. There aren't super long combos usually so you don't have to worry about scaling that much. Its more about landing multiple chains consistently.
