New machine gun. Jets used to fire each bullet individually, which was impossible for the player to aim and use effectively. Now it's just a small area in front of the player that takes damage, with its position changing based on speed and (eventually) turning

No visuals yet. I plan to add tracers and some barrel flashes on the planes. Haven't reimplemented a cooldown yet, and haven't implemented the new gun in the AI, either

Took me a month because I was trying different frameworks. Then I realized I didn't want to make an engine, I wanted to make game, so I chose an engine, spent a week or two following tutorials and making simple tiny games. Then worked up from there.

I'm still no where close to being good enough to make my dream games though.

Another day of work/code and another night of art/design.

This time I decided to try tackling the Spy Guy partner, Recon Guy (don't have a real name for him yet).

I think I may have figured it out. I think what I'll do is make two or three levels from each mythology, and place them next to each other. Every level will be designed to look like a cave, but they'll all be different (one might look more like a desert cave, another might look like a jungle cave, etc.) I have a bunch of generic enemies that can go in each level, like bats and spiders, and like I said, I'll put a bunch of unique enemies from each mythology in its own level.

Is it the snifit stuff or the eyes?
I did originally make him with nomral Shy Guy mask stuff, but when I put the eyes in it felt like he'd work better with a Snifit style mask.

I can't really get rid of the eyes though, as that's supposed to be tied to his partner skill. He acts as Watt did, making invisible things visible, by doing a night vision mode thing.
Does this look better? I could do a thing where the eyes instead pop out when going recon mode.

Added ripple effect. Added a bobber that is cast out now. And I added an animation for catching a fish. Right now there's no actual fishing mechanic, just clicking through the states. Tomorrow I'll try adding an actual fishing mechanic.

Now the dialog system handles timelines for "cutscenes".

Well /agdg/, a lovely deviant from /trash/ offered to help redesign my shy girl villain concept.
They got me a really great sketch of how it should look, and now I'm trying to make the sketch to Paper Mario's style.

What do you think of the color scheme options I've got so far?
I feel like the blue and black looks better, but I also worry that it may be a bit overdone.
The orange came from the anon's drawing, as they outlined it in orange and it actually seemed like a good base color, but I'm not sure if it's better than the blue/black.

Thoughts?

the problem is not that I don't know the hotkeys. I'm actually pretty damn proficient with it (or at least it feels like it). My problems is the actual 3d knowledge. I tried to start the head with a circle and try to form the proper edge loops and angles but everytime I end up with a shitton of vertices in some location and if I try to remove some it just makes the mesh fubar right there.

Maybe I just don't have the right process.

Do you think this can be somehow applied to figuring out the optimal size for the board of a Chess-like game? Is there any research on this? I imagine that even beginners don't treat each square as A Thing and chunk space, but with what method?

Also what's with your level man... Is that just one big image? That's not really a practical way to build levels.

If not making it tile based, you should at the very least break the level into chunks (ie something like ramps, straights, mountains, etc that you can just stamp down where needed)

Also: Get some more parallax action going on in your background to make it more visually appealing.
