Just for the fact that P4's combat is piss easy due to lack of elemental variety and unbalanced shit, makes the game terrible in my eyes. Zen and Rei are pretty bad party members, but they are not the worst ones and you could use them all the way until the end if you feel like it.Although the ultimate bosses can be tricky, so watch out.
But I recommend you to try and switch between all the characters at least during the early-mid game, so that you get an idea of how everyone plays like. While maybe just keeping one or two permanent party members excluding your MC at most.
That will give you a neat feature in the end, and it'll come in handy during quests that require you to use X or Y characters.
And once you get EXP Growth accesories you can begin to bench whoever you don't like.

The inconsistencies are mostly within his behavior. His behavior bends to the whims of the writing, or one thing he says doesn't add up with what he does.
There's also how one moment he's pushing you in a certain direction, the next he's playing dumb and saying it's your decision, giving the player a false sense of control. Or he'll "learn" something, only to disregard it later. Or he treats certain characters with such blaring differences that he can't be as neutral-thinking and dumb as he lets on, compare how he treats Miyako compared to Yamato for example.
I've been trying to play Persona. I have the PSP and Vita versions of 3 and 4 and I've been trying to get through them. I have a stupid problem, though.
I've got an anxiety disorder. A real one, not that tumblr shit. Whenever I start playing either one I get super nervous because like, what if I fuck up a day, make the wrong choices, and fuck up all my social links so I can't get the coolest personas or events or etc, etc, and then I wind up too overwhelmed to play the game.

In P3 you'll pretty much HAVE to use a guide to get everything because there are some things you just can't predict or events you'll miss out on. In P4 it's much more loose. Aside from Justice and whatever Dojima's shit was, most S-links are open for ages, and the really good personas aren't hard to miss (aside from Tower, max out Tower ASAP from the tutoring job for dah best demon).
In Persona 3 I'd recommend selecting a few Arcana S-Links to just outright avoid. Moon is worthless and the worst S-Link. You can also ditch Hanged Man and maybe Star too.

Be careful of your dialogue choices in the final dungeon. You can either end up fighting the True Goddess and end the game, get the postgame content, or start on NG+ if you end up choosing the option that sides with the angelsand ends the universe only for the True Goddess to recreate it.
Note that it's your once chance to redo the game but with all your stuff besides you demon partner being kept. Cool the Cerberus will restart at his initial level.
Also magnetite is hidden everywhere. You'll want to look around for it because you'll get Sariel the angel if you find enough. It doesn't regenerate on NG+ though.

You literally cannot get everything the first way through, some big things are barred off until New Game+, so consider your first playthrough kind of a trial of sorts.

The Triangulum arc proves that could have been prevented if the player just spoke to him, but Alcor prevents the player from doing this. He was well within his right to act the way he did everything considered, that was some pretty heavy betrayal and incredibly suspicious behavior. Alcor was a monster in his eyes, he's directly responsible for ruining his life, Yamato is unstable, Alcor knows this. That battle and his death was Alcor's fault.

Not abruptly and the protag doesn't go into hiding in them, he knows he's at a faction's base. Consider how the protag's actions in Alcor's route looked to him when you take into account both his backstory with Alcor and how much respect he showed the protagonist.
Also should probably point out that he begged the protag to reconsider before he tried to kill him, and tried to warn him that Alcor's intentions were malicious because screwed up his life and because of the suspicious behavior he had the player do.

I use an electronic dictionary for college assignments to write the kanji I don't know and learn their pronunciations and meanings, but it's super expensive. You could use google translation or jisho.com to do the same thing, I think google translation works better and gives names as well as normal words. If you see a very common word/kanji this way try to memorize it, it could be useful for other things.

Thing with Final is that they seem to be bringing all the organizations from IV into this along with new ones. Plus being a different game they probably wanted it to be like the alliances you see between Monotheists and Polytheists and have your group be its own alliance of characters united from different factions.
And in the end we will likely have a chance to kill them all along with the choice of remaining comrades.

I would have thought they would make it more necessary since they're bundled together and you wouldn't have to worry about either a friend having the second one or you having to buy the other. How so? I know mainline is more about the philosophies clashing but why can't there be good characters along with that? I'd say Strange Journey made me like the characters more than SMT1 did. Nocturne made all the characters kind of unlikable and consequently made me not want to join up with any of them. I wish I could speak for IV but I haven't gotten far enough to fully judge the characters.
If they make you like the characters then it will make having to choose who to go with and who to kill that much harder and give the desired effect of crushing your soul.
