You can choose to either land a reliable blind in which case the enemy will just hide for couple of seconds and continue their assault.
Or you can choose to throw it into them which gives a slow effect but the blind will not effect them as much and will even more likely effect your own teammates.
The guns are meh.
Honestly you could be playing fragger and actually using a far more effective form of crowd control. Death.
