It's funny to me when people think subscribing is more pure than donating, or that people only use subscribing to give someone money is more well intended. Not only does half of your donation go to twitch and not the person you want to "support", you also get a bunch of attention from the chat and the streamer, and you receive stupid emotes that maybe 10% of people actually use (unless it is a witwix type channel). A donation to a streamer that won't read it on stream and has no big dumb alert entails only genuine support for a streamer. A subscription is a cheap way to attention whore in every circumstance (as is donating to a stream with alerts often too).
When zoast got subscriber, you saw all of these oldboy nuthuggers like garrison, coolkid, bjw, [insert #rks shitter here] subscribing to him and not using his emotes a single time ever. Zoast had a donation link for ages, but these oldboys never thought once to use it. The moment he got subscriber though, they jumped at the opportunity to get attention from their senpai in the name of "support" just as the beta stream monsters do to any big sellout streamer.
Accepting donations or donating to support a low key streamer may still be degenerate in the holy and pure eyes of /srg/, but it is by far the least shitty way to exchange money on twitch.
