After choosing your crime, say you're innocent and maintain your innocence, this makes you lawful.
Investing in Wards gives you magic defense and healing powers. Investing in Fight and Guard makes you good at slugging it out on the front line.

Magic won't be a DEEPS as melee, but you usually still end up doing more damage since you can Risk at your heart's content as long as you have a decent tank. Getting more higher-tier magic skills also helps.
You also can try investing a bit in Hunt for critical hits (it works on magic too) and/or track down a good magic weapon.

The crusader is great, but 30 fight/guard/dodge is kinda shitty to start with. Try to start with at least 50 in 2 stats, so you unlock the first skill for them.
A character with 50 fight/guard backed up by the crusader can take him easily.

You need manpower to claim a stronghold. Manpower is your Labor stat. The more manpower you have, the better strongholds you can claim, which lets you recruit more people. For instance the first place you get, the marina, has a limit of 6. This can either be 6 party members, or 4 party members and 2 services. A service requires additional upkeep and takes up a vacancy slot - But it gives you access to new things such as bigger stash and the ability to sell items. In the beginning you really only need a Quartermaster.

It doesn't end their turn, only puts them back at the end of the queue. You can potentially keep going and take multiple actions after the enemy has stopped, but each one increases your chance of fumbling, which doesn't do anything and makes you take extra damage the next turn.
So basically just use it to reposition or attack twice in one turn fairly regularly. Later on you'll get things that increase enemy risk and decrease your own, and fight enemies with similar properties.

Lots of people have been lying in the past few threads so I'll clear some things up :
- The game is gay, not sexually explicit but there's a lot of male nudity, gay characters, and even gayier events (pic related)
- There are only 4 special female party members (Borgnina, Rangda, Moria, Rosaline)
- Starting choices have pretty much no effect beyond roleplaying and personal skills
- Some crimes will always give you a specific companion, and some will give you an exclusive one
- Zantanak (demon) is exclusive to Maledicus and prevents you from recruiting Borgnina
- Reanimated Guard is exclusive to Necromancer and prevents you from recuiting Greave
- Other starting companions can all be gotten through the game regardless of the one you started with
- The only romance option is for Nazar (the big burly orc)
- Some companions are exclusive to one another so you have to choose. Grant (werewolf) is exclusive to Byrne (vampire) and Nazar is exclusive to Rangda (orc girl).
- Always make sure you have a free stronghold space, special characters will never appear again if you don't recruit them the first time.
I've pretty much done everything in the game prior to steam release so you can ask away.

I ordered Bastard Bonds from the developer's website before it was on Steam, been playing for a while. Some stuff:
Lizard people have an innate poison ability for attacks. The green ones anyway. Give one a bow, an accessory that deals a status issue with attacks like a Diamond Ring or something, and you can deal two status issues per attack safely from the back lines. Good cover and cheese that way for a while.
Those obsidians dropped by some enemies? You can combine two of the same kind at a blacksmith to make a body part. Then combine those like the torso with a wing, then that with another wing, and so on. I'm about ready to make the head.

Something simple but easy to not think about: if you're running out of item space, just give items to your allies waiting at the base and use them as pack mules.

No classes, you get 9 skills : the 3 classic warrior/dex/mage orientations each with attack, defense and utility skills.
Strengh: physical damage, defense and manual labor
Dexerity: crit chance/dmg, dodge and ingeniousity
Magic: magic damage, magic defense/heal and arcane knowledge
Each of these 9 skills gain levels, and unlock sub-skills. For exemple lvl2 in dodge will give you a passive that increases your dodge chance.
The utility skills are mostly used as skill checks for interacting with the environment or NPCs.
So there are only 9 skills, but it's very flexible. You can put points in def and magic def for a tanky paladin with healing aura, or str/magic for some warrior mage.
Oh and the magic system is pretty unique too.

Skill system instead.
Leveling a skill increases every skill on the same axis a little too. So leveling magic utility also increases all magic skills and all utility skills a bit. Leveling your physical defense increases physical skills and all other defense skills. Hitting milestones of 50 in each skill gives you a new ability.
It really encourages you to pick what you want a character to do and stick to it, without leveling exclusively one stat and only doing one exact thing.

Custom Melee slut that has 200 hunt + a scythe with threat and crit
Tank Mage with 300 ward + nice heals
This team has held up very nicely but ambushes push this team to its limits. Rosaline aggros everything while the rest of my team lay the beat down on everyone else.I haven't been able to make use of the Stronghold much yet.
A big tip I noticed so far is that you can partially clear an area and exit it for any reason.
I'm totally making a qt kobold thief grill my next playthrough of this. Now to find some sprites.

Problem with making trap sprites is that you can't really make good use of the 80x64 sprite are while it allows for a lot more detail on big barrel chested men.

Give him a spear or something with reach, and pair him up with a 'true' tank, that just soaks up damage, and they're pretty much unstoppable.
