Just got my stronghold. It's a bit boring due to how simplistic the combat system is and how small in scale the encounters. Literally all I do is have the enemies come to me and then I mash attack or sometimes guard if I'm feeling lucky enough to bet on them attacking my tank. Nothing has managed to really pose a threat to this tactic. I get that it's the start of the game, but still.
Even so, I really like the style so I'll probably keep playing for a while longer.

Anyone know how the fuck to juggle accessories efficiently? I have several -mana and -align gems and can't figure out the best way to utilize them. Plus I just found a regeneration amulet which I put on my undead tank. Right now I have the harpy with a bow and sapphire to apply nexus to targets at range so my wizard can deal more damage, my ifreet with a range 1 weapon and a diamond to apply both pain and daze, I'm considering emerald on the reanimated guard for tanglestrike so shit stays put, but I feel like another acc might do, too. Wizard is just using a ruby ring for maxmana and extra +10 magic damage to stack with the +20 from his staff.
Not entirely sure if this setup is optimal. The harpy is mixing things up a little bit now, since I haven't had a guile character up until now. She can thwart and has a lot of point in hunting, but garbage health. Naturally higher dodge though, and came with free nixmana magic attacks. I want to make use of her high crit chance but I don't want her to die in melee.
Also recruited monsters can approach you in the stronghold like regular characters.

Arson, Malediction, Necromancy, Cannibalism are good for mages, as they grant Touched and ups your magic damage. Malediction and Necromancy also grant you an exclusive companion at the start if you were guilty of the crime.

Just keep opposing element accessories on the quickbar and switch them as a free action depending on the enemy types you are facing.
If it's a a place filled with demons for example, no point in using Pox or Max, go with Lux.
There's a ruby ring on that fortress on your pic for max and I believe there's also a diamond with lux dropped in one of the earlier maps.

Everything is recruitable except for bosses. (The only rule is every enemy must HESITITATE, and they will only do that at 1 heart )
Having a a utility user will make things a lot easier especially if you have the "down to earth ability" in the first category of force.
Usually what I do is have a 1 healer, 2 Melee, And recruiter. Depending on how high the level the monster, I soften him up first with melee attacks, if he has only 2 or 1 1/2 heat, my utility will attack him then my healer heals him.
Then I wait out the enemy to have one heart and then I recruit.

The plot is to get out of the Island, the normal one is easy. The Secret one is time consuming
level 14 now with a 8 man crew chilling out at the dilapidated cottage.
Here is my shitty character sprite, I put pretty much no effort into it but I'm too invested in the character to drop it and start over.
I think I was just messing with the character gen and just sort of ended up making wiifit trainer with shoulder pads, so I split my leveling between combat and labor with a little bit of dodge. It's mostly working.
Crime: miscegenation, admitted guilt, is actually guilty. Got me a crazy orc mage who is accused of being a madman for preaching his future sight and trying to help people.
I mostly seem to run a party full of tanky characters and just wall my way through things. Evasion characters are insane at times too.

The second I saw her, I killed her slaves and forced her up against a wall and tickled her with my mages shitty melee attack while my two tanks blocked her escape routes until I forced her to join me. Took like 12 negotiations. It'l make nabbing other shit easier so I guess it was worth it.

Natural high physical and magical defense, natural increased attack power despite no investment in fight, two stars in guard and ward, comes with a free five inventory slots. Level 8 with the rest of the party at 12 but by god I am going to make this one unstoppable.
Also harpy is fucking fantastic. I got her after my dick told me to, but she's genuinely great. High speed, high dodge, whatever. She automatically gets a perk that lets her talk to anything, combined with her speed means she usually gets her turn immediately after an enemy starts hesitating. I'm going to have to find something ridiculously amazing in order to convince me to swap any of those out now.

Just take note it really depends on your gameplay because no matter how strong your MC, it will surely die without other members. The usual tactic is to have one tank and others melee DEPENDING on which you partner you received. Example my partner is a THEIF he has high guile but weak melee and defense. Someone should either become a healer or tank to keep him alive.BUT I usually use him for the finishing blow (2 hearts) because that is when his attacks reaches 40-80
Magic is a volatile concept, it is more powerful than physical attacks if you have the right knowledge on how to use it (like pokemon fire vs ice etc..) . Also WARD and HEALING magic is essential because if you don't how to heal, long term bosses will crush you especially in the final part of the game.***Special tomes and rings can greatly boost magic also with special effects like daze and rage will help in combat

Plenty of weapons to forge at the blacksmith though. Physical weapons seem to get a lot of physical damage and even high crit chances.

Actually if you have an arcane tome you can combine gems with them and make it an elemental weapon. Arcane tomes are penultimate forms of Salvaged Mantra (You need 8 in all) to forge. Grimoires are Unique dungeon items

It's explained in the tutorial level, but not very well IMO.
Basically, when you take a risk you get an extra action in that turn, but the more risks you take the bigger the chance you'll fumble, which ends that turn and gives you a defense debuff. The first risk of the turn is free, so everyone can act at least twice per turn. Ranged characters can often risk again and again until they fumble, since the defense debuff doesn't affect them as much. However, it can be better to just take a normal non-risk attack (and thus end your turn) than to risk a fumble when you're trying to finish off an enemy.
Later on you'll get skills that influence the amount of risk you get as well as the amount of risk enemies get (and also encounter enemies that use those skills) so it gets a bit more complex than that.

I think you're misunderstanding the system.
It's not necessarily two actions in a row, it's two (or more) actions in a TURN.
Look at the turn bar for more details, the arrow displays how much "time" your action takes, and normal actions take a full turn while risky actions take less than that.

Fumble will end the character that do reckless action turn and this character will receive 50% more damage from all attacks that attack you in Fumble stage until next turn.
To avoid Fumble use the “Normal action” instead of “Reckless action”
Daredevil
If you have high “Risk” in Risk Bar it also have a chance you don’t get “Fumble” you will get “Daredevil” instead if you lucky enough.
“Daredevil” give you same benefit with “Defense” buff until next turn and gain extra Experience.

The thing with Blackguards, at least the first one, is that you're not really playing criminals. You're just generic heroes who ended up in jail somehow.
The game itself is decent. Not great, but not bad either. I dislike the Dark Eye system it uses since it's basically not-D&D with some meaningless complexity added, and some of the fights get REALLY tedious, but it's a fairly entertaining game nonetheless with a good bit of challenge. I'm not sure what the current price is, but if you can get it for $10 or less I'd say it's worth it.

The whole thing where some skills depend on some stats and you buy everything with the same points is just pointlessly opaque to me. It adds nothing and just seems to me like it's designed to look complex without actually being complex, since you just end up focusing on the pretty much the same things for every character.

Eh, it's more of a casual game in that you don't have dozens and dozens of stats to keep track of and plays quite fast for a SRPG which is what keeps me playing as Im kinda burnt out of long and complex games for the moment. It's decent. You dont play as evil guys anyways, just people who are in jail for one reason or another, by the third mission or so it becomes obvious your party is a standard rpg hero party, complete with one of the members crying its eyes out for the death of another that he met 2 missions ago. Battles can be a little tedious but overall its alright if you're aching for a SRPG. The Dark Eye system is pretty good btw and its much more freeform than D&D in that it lets you choose and mix skills at your will.
