My opinions: setting, monster design and atmosphere in rev 1 is better. Raid mode in Rev 1 is far better.
Single player campaign and core gameplay is much better in rev 2 though. Also rev 2 doesn't have those abysmal comic relief characters that make me want to cut my dick off so that's huge points as well.
Overall I think they're both great but different. Oh and Barry has some of the best lines of the whole franchise in Rev 2.

The endings for every other Resident Evil demo aren't nearly as ambiguous as this one's
I've not followed these threads, so pardon if I'm late to the party.
People've surely noticed that there seems to be a light source emanating -from- certain parts of the kitchen wall, right? Specifically, the sections of the wall that are approximately parallel to the door in the room in the middle of the hallway (with the voodoo doll), which leads me to believe there's supposed to be an accessible room there. Of course ,all manners of axing around the perimeter hasn't helped. Anyone else been thinking about that room in particular? Talk of the answer being on the on the ground floor in particular's been fueling my desire to get in there.
Also: Any popular interpretations as to the meaning of the phone messages? They can't not be clues of some sort, right? The one about the answer being in "our memories" points to something in the 'VHS World' being significant, although it could easily just be referring to how to get the axe. That explanation is also a bit problematic if we choose to believe the person you're playing as isn't actually Clancy from the tapes, and thus the tape is not -his- memories.

I'd argue otherwise. Rev 2 had much more varied and disturbing enemy design. Rev 1 enemy design felt limited (due to 3DS format), and that hurt it a bit.
Rev 2 was better paced and didn't cut away to random snowbase or mega-city flashback.
Rev 1 had better raid mode maps (considering they were just lifted from the main game), but Rev 2 had better raid mode in general.
They are both phenomenal games though.

The AI in RE5 was pretty good if you gave them the right weapons and used the proper AI behavior setting at the right time. They'd go full retard if you gave them a gun that they use poorly or had them in Attack/Cover mode at the wrong times.
For example, AI Chris and Sheva are awful at using their unique weapons, the longbow and gatling gun.
They're extremely wasteful if the strongest weapon they have is an Assault Rifle and you put them in Attack Mode.
They'll spaz out if they have both a shotgun and SMG/AR, switching between them regularly depending on the enemy's distance from them, causing them to do little.
Manage the weapons they carry and they're extremely effective and not at all frustrating to work with.
Ideally, give your Buddy an AR to use in Cover mode (they'll fire in single shots and will aim for the head against close enemies) and a sniper rifle in Attack mode (in which they'll basically destroy everything that moves).
In RE6's case, your buddy AI is nigh-unkillable, has infinite ammo and if you give them the Field Medic skill, they effectively have unlimited healing for you. However, they're extremely passive compared to the very helpful RE5 buddy, it's mostly up to you to kill everything.
