Paradox LITERALLY withholds easily-implemented features in order to pump out $15 DLC every 4 to 5 months.
>>336990925
It's like distant worlds, but actually good
>>336991026
This. Please stop buying their games.

Will keep me busy until HOI4. Hopefully they didn't fuck that up.
Hopefully we finally get Vicky III with the support it deserves.

>Redpill me on this game, /v/.
You pirate it.
You wait and see if Paradox goes full-jew with DLC (as they always do)
If they do? Congrats you saved money.
If they don't? Maybe they are not shit anymore - feel free to buy the game and support them.
First for furries.

Two options:
1) No DLC, but Paradox essentially abandons the game.
2) DLC
You can't win with those fucks. They're lucky no one has stolen their ideas.
>>336991253
pretty much this, i could easly buy it, but i know paradox and i know thye will try to literally steal from me, so im just gonna pirate. im sure they would get more money if they'd change their tactics

Why no countdown...what faggotry...
Also, from the gameplay videos its obvious the game mechanics are clunky as shit...
Like the whole exploration fatal failure crap where everyone has to simply level up their explorer till the failure rate is super low on any anomaly they want to try..
No choice since risking the explorer is way too dangerous especially if he is leveled up..
Also, all races feel the same..You dont look or are organized in a different manner, just changes in stats..
No unique gameplay, game plays like you were playing with different civilizations on earth as oppose to alien life forms.
Game has no soul. And combat, as usual is simplistic as fuck.
No ability to choose strategy or assign commanders to speciality ships or divide your fleet into squads with commander that use different tactics...
Inventions have no character, just tiny icons. Compare that to Moo2, that game had a soul cause many stuff had cool visual representations.
In this game we have to invent the game's soul ourselves ala blorg friendly empire nonesense, cause the game is tabula rasa when it comes to characterization and lore.
>>336991423
That's because the game was literally pumped out in like 14 months lol, and they didn't have better games in the past to draw and improve upon.

What a waste of time and money.
What are improvements or differences in this game over Distant Worlds?
>>336991091

vici and ck are the only paradox games without mana, and maybe rome don't remember
>>336993348
How they weren't mana? Are you braindead retarded or something?
They are literally worked like adm/dip/mil, you spend them and waited until they restore to spend again
Why do you call one thing mana but not other? Because it's hurt your narration?
>>336993405
Why are you ccomparing representation of resources to a ridiculous gameplay abstraction tthat can be used to fit everything
>>336993626
You are real fucking idiot. Sorry that being Paradox fanboys turned you this stupid.
They are not mana because they aren't some magic points that you can instantly spend to immediately benefit your empire like the monarch point.
Admin Mana? Spend those to immediately reduc War Exhaustion or increase your stability.
And you're comparing this shit to sending your traders to trade center to accumulate money.
You're fucking stupid.
>>336993790
>Spend those to immediately reduc War Exhaustion or increase your stability.
Oh, so you never played EU3 too...
>>336992019
Thats just a cop out. They could have thought about a way to add lore without compromising their desire for randomality.
the game needs more traits, its need more specialization and focus. Different alien life has to have radically different organization and control schemes...They are masters of making menues, well, traits should effect if for example you have commanders that you assign to different tasks or if you have some other control mechanics where a master insect brain levels up and controls everything himself, which means experience always levels up and no leaders can die (cause its one giant hive) but the master mind has other caps which offset the fact the experiecne is always preserved...
We need radical stuff of this nature..We need originality.
This is not EU or CK, where you play with different human countries, these are alien life forms...
Never really played strategy or grand strategy games, so I'll probably get my ass kicked hard but the allure of being able to create my own species and empire and take over the universe, or at least co-exist with others in it is too much for me, I know I will probably get my ass beat and not understand wtf happened but I have to try.
>>336991091
Why do people shit on Distant Worlds so
The game gets so little attention and now that it actually does get attention with Stellaris coming out it gets nothing but insults
Paradox fans are some of the biggest cocksuckers on the internet. I guess all those DLCs melted their brains.
>>336993937
Fucking shills, that's what they are.
Prior to Stellaris release/hype thread nobody shit on DW, or even cared about it.
>>336993875
You can spend imaginary points to immediately increase stability in EU3?
How?
>>336993626
You're not going to win this argument. The mana fags are too simple minded to understand abstraction. They like sending diplomats or spending ducats to instantly have some sort of effect in the world because they know that people and money exist in the real world. It doesn't matter that you and I know that the diplomat is just an abstraction of the political agency of a massive nation state. They can't understand that. All they see is the little portrait of a man. And men do things, don't you know?
>>336993875
He's about to tell you that money isn't mana. Really. These people don't understand. You're just going to get frustrated as he becomes more angry over his own confusion.
>>336993875
Please point out where you spend admin mana to do those things in eu3. I've played that game to death but I must have missed that
>>336994076
>He's about to tell you that money isn't mana.
Damn, son. You sure got me good.
How much did Parajew paid you?
>>336994076
What gets me, is the way that people that talk about mana insist heavily that it's more realistic to spend money or something when it's just divorced entirely from how things worked at the time. EU 4 at least outright doesn't have you develop technolgoy, just adopt it really.
>>336993937
Fuck if I know. I kept asking what's wrong with DW yet nobody tells me, apart from it's shit and shallow and such.
>>336994161
See. He's so confused that he has to fall back on memespeak even if it makes no sense in this context. These people are very, very stupid.

The problem with influence is that it's just not a very good mechanic. You get these points that can be used in so many different ways, itI doesn't make any sense. Why would suppressing a revolt cost progress in the next military tech?
>>336994220
>>336994251

You never develop any technolgoy in EU, that's just not how that time period works, that gets done on it's own, you just adopt it and incorporate it.
>>336994463
Bruh, it's all abstract and shit.
Ok, so EU3 has mana.
Then why did you say that Vicky 2 has no mana then? Isn't that a bit hypocritical?

>>336994891
I honestly agree, as much as i love paradox the lore department lacks. Granted from what i've seen in Stellaris is quite an improvement (fictional setting as compared to previous titles which are heavily historical based so need to be some what believable) but it doesn't top what Amplitude has.
Don't get me wrong their artists work is amazeballs but amplitude just has something about their style that captures that unique feeling of a fantasy science fiction / fantasy universe especially with Endless legend and Space. You ain't wrong either, the UI/Lore is definitely more developed too but then again, stellaris is just making up a story as you go compared to pre-set stories like ES/L so you kind of gotta give them some leeway there.
Speaking of, has their been any record of "magic" or some form of basis that explains the possibility of magical elements in stellaris? I've heard its got some mystical elements to it according to some lets players but im not 100% sure.

>>336995318
I'm pretty sure the description of "magic" is going to be an ethos related one as in a spiritual government is going to be describing anomalies as magical phenomena while more materialistic species will simply be describing it in more scientific terms

So lets say all in all you spend a 100 bucks on it with all the dlc and you put 400 hours into it, isn't that like...okay? If you don't like it just pirate it , i don't give a fuck

>>336995802
There is literally nothing wrong with DLC.
This DLC is bad meme is the most annoying shit. People got mad at DLC practices originally because it either was a total scam (horse armor) or cut content. But now the difference has been lost and its "ALL DLC BAD".

Does anyone remember the 30-40 dollar expansion packs PC games from a generation ago would have
Would two or three pieces of content (non-reskin) DLC released for EU IV, each of which were like 15 dollars at their launch, equal the amount of additions that came with a typical expansion pack
im not making some kind of rhetorical point, i really dont know
>>336996365
not really, if you're borrowing something from 40k you're actually borrowing it from the same source 40k borrowed it from, therefor the creators and fans of 40k have literally zero argument by which to claim borrowing from them is somehow improper
>>336996457
Like I said, thats some real shitty logic.
Also, 40k has plenty of original stories involved. Go read a book.
>>336996417
They occasionally had one or sometimes (rarely) at max two expansions.
The costs were here most time 20-30€.
No cosmetic useless mini DLC for 3$.
No Sims kind 20 big DLC for 15$.
>>336994534
I think the biggest problem with Distant Worlds is that it was a 4x that tried to be a grand strategy, but lacked the good parts from both (like a god awful tech tree that with laser>laser2>laser3>laser4>etc being a 5% boost difference)
>>336996457

and 40k's setting ranges from inspired by to blatant copyright violation
>>336996054

I'd like it if they did it better. The AI rebellion was already done in AI War and it was fantastic. Seeing a MEDIOCRE copy of warp travel, of AI rebellion, of Tyranids invasion, of basically everything else that's a standard sci-fi trope is not going to make me pay full price.
Going to wait for a sale. By then they might actually fix the end-game melting your rig.
>>336996202
>literally nothing in 40k is original,
True
>there's no problems borrowing anything from it
WRONG! Originality is no virtue, doing something well is what matters. 40k and Fantasy does it great, Paradox is just soulless.
>>336996417
Well the problem with gsg in general is you can't just put together a different campaign right? So they constantly have to change the gameplay or add new nations but also do meaningful additions to the game.
So the last 2 DLCs (wich run you around 30-40 dollars together I guess) added a bunch of new mechanics. I'd say its still less then an expansion was back in the day, but it keeps me coming back to the game and sink another 24-40 hours into it. So the way i see it (if i bought the DLC or eu4 which i didn't) its an okay $/Entertainment ratio

Shitty logic is shitty. Period.

Anyone can be a minimalist cunt and pretend a work is unoriginal. You're not doing yourself any favors.
>>336996654
well, there's also the addition of mechanics that make absolutely no impact or sense, that can be completely ignored.
I miss the days when expansions were just chock full of content, like getting an entire new campaign for Neverwinter Nights, and not a DLC class with no balance thought for the same price tag
>>336996763

Improve your reading comprehension. I started the argument by saying Paradox was shit for being bad at copying. When GW copies, it improves on the source material.
Amplitude also copies standard sci-fi concepts. But it improves on them.
Whoever the Pandora devs are also copied SMAC but improved on it.
Contrast with Beyond Earth which is just as much of a soulless copy cash-grab as Paradox.

It's just White and Black.

So:
I'll go to sleep soon. Wake up at 6pm. And play Stellaris until 9pm when I will have to go to work.
That means I will only get about 5 hours of sleep since I can't fall asleep before 1pm.

>Can't tell allies/AI not to research things via force or Diplomacy so Unbidden from researching jump drives will almost always happen
>Only 4 endgame events
>Slavery has 0 downsides if specced properly

Stop living in a fantasy world. I have watched hours on end of gameplay. Its so uninventive its crazy.
For a game that mostly has menues, they couldnt create several control schemes..Instead all races, insectoid collectives, and human individualist materialists act and are governed in the exact same way, using the exact same menues with the exact same options.
Its pure fucking faggory and once you get the game and play a few hours you WILL be dissapointed.
This game will not live up to expectations. That is guaranteed.
Its dry.
D

everything is boring. Their symmatric traits and world type circles..
There is no uniqueness, only a dry system that distributes stats a bit differently.
CK2 is much better.
Not only does it have history lore but way more features.
This cant rely on existing real life lore and invents none itself.
Its dry mcsci fi menues and identical gameplay for all races.
Why are people excited for this? you wont have a Paradox dev whispering and inventing lore for you when you will be playing alone.
you wont have a "blorg" friendless empire..
You will just have generic menues and portraits all with the exact same gameplay and zero personality.

Thats not true though. Even their most devved game, CK2 does not really allow you to do as you please since As long as you have blood relatives you keep being the rules. The game does not randomly present you with conditions for doing anything else but steadily conquer and blob up.
There is no tall game, there are no other cool stuff to do except conquer.

Want interesting races with personality(cause artwork was created for them) look at endless legends.

The issue with Endless Space is that it is highly boring, and not a really good game all things taken. The art, design and setting is A++, but the gameplay is C+ at best.
Yes, Stellaris' setting seem to be less focused, but the gameplay is just plain better.
What's the space combat like in this game?

Vicky 2 is a pretty bad game. As an illiterate country you have a wait decades to get a working economy because of the way the POP system works, if laissez faire economics gets voted in the mean time you are screwed. The infamy mechanic is stupid, you either wait for years or ignore it because you are too powerful to worry about it, at least with coalitions in EU4 you can work to mitigate some of the hate, and finally the influence system is boring and involves potentially huge micromanagement if you want to get the most influence.

I for one am super hyped and have already pre-ordered the galaxy edition, I can't wait to play it later today. I'm gonna have tons of fun just designing my species, and the gameplay will be awesome too.
So please stop with all of the negativity for once, let's just talk about how great the game is so we can get more people to pre-order with us and have a big community with lots of people to talk to the game about.

>Which is a fucking shame because making ships that were bigger than entire planets or even entire star systems was fucking hilarious.
That one moment in a game
When the main means of assault on your enemies switches over to the stellar collapse of their stars
Jesus Christ IS IT EVEN WORTH IT ANYMORE AT THAT STAGE? Lesser species with populations of billions sitting in their sole owned solar system and you just collapse their star and destroying everything in their solar system in one huge super-novae simply to deny resources to your arch-nemesis empire who holds so many stars, like you, that one star is a mere drop in the bucket but you just can't risk letting them have it.
>>337004503
grand strat

>>337004518
No, its much larger. Unless you played Civ5 on the modded HUGE map, and on the slowest marathon speed.
>>337004503
4x at the beginning while you explore, colonize and start getting your empire up its feet
After that the grand strategy elements slowly take over, you'll be managing pops and what not and play the diplomacy game with other empires.
This is how you make a game with character.
>>337004503
it's supposed to be a blend of both.
in a game like crusader kings, you enter a pre-established world filled with people, choose a spot to sit down and then continue playing in their place.
in stellaris you start from basically scratch, like civilization, and slowly grow into a huge empire, like crusader kings.
at least: that's my basic understanding of it.
>>337004479

Stellaris seems to be a good spot to try out the genre, or EU4. To be honest the only complex grand strategy games out there made by Paradox are HoI3 and Vic2.
Then of course you have Aurora, which is a spreadsheet simulator with a UI literally from 1992.

Government type dictates a lot of what you can and cant do, you'll have to play the game multiple times to actually see everything.

This is from someone that got a preview copy and played most of their other titles, it might be their worst vanilla title.
While perfect for 4x players, I 100% guarantee most looking for anything revolutionary or cpmplex will be disappointed.
