Daily reminder that all the ebin customisation and meaningful decisions that Paracocks are selling you boil down to +X% modifiers, just like EU4 and all their other games.
People will claim this isn't true, but if they don't have proof then don't believe them. As for my evidence, I tender their entire publishing history which is full of exactly the same situation.

Asked in the last thread but got no answer.
What kind of government do angry mushroom men have?
How can I go about making a civilization of space jews?

That's what the filthy barbarians said when the Romans came around and showed them what real civilization was.
I'm trying to help you anon.

>>337007037
>Thats not even true in regards to other Paradox games
Well, yes and no. It's not true for every mechanic (Vicky 2's political parties and government types spring to mind, or succession law in CK2) but it's certainly true for a lot of them. Think of Estates in EU4 - or Corruption.
EU4 covers the entire Renaissance without a single change in gameplay, when in real life we transformed from highly developed late feudal government to proto-nation-states over the same time period.
It's just ludicrous.
Dunno, man, I find space 4Xs boring as fuck
There's a sense of detachment and fakeness when instead of relatable historic events, technology and people you deal with random blasters-schmasters. Might as well dabble in Microsoft Excel
>>337007136

>>337006528
Go forth with the Emperor's Blessings
>>337006985
You can uplift minor advanced species if you encounter them and the ones you conquered will be also part of your empire.
Types of Fallen Empires:
Keepers of Knowledge-Fanatic Materialists-The Fallen Empire dedicates itself to the hoarding of technologies that it believes should be kept out of the hands of young and irresponsible races. Pursuing dangerous lines of research will draw their ire.
Enigmatic Observers-Fanatic Xenophiles-Empires that use slaves, or purge populations may suffer the wrath of the Observers.
Holy Guardians-Fanatic Spiritualists-This fallen empire dedicates itself to the preservation and defense of its holy sites. Colonizing systems that they consider sacred is likely to incur their ire.
Militant Isolationists-Fanatic Xenophobe-Get off my lawn. Responds very negatively to border friction.
>>337007246
>but it's certainly true for a lot of them.
Woopdefuckingdo. There are more than enough important changes and distinctions to make the games different.

you research them
eventually towards the "endgame" you can research dangerous tech, researching it does nothing unless there's a fallen empire out there specifically aimed at not letting people advance too far but when using it you can unleash hell on the galaxy.
you can research sentinent AI that will eventually Rebel because lets face it AI can do everything better than a living creature why would it ever serve you willingly, and so you can unleash this plague of your enemies and they will quickly overpower any foe they fight with their insane government type of -50% reduced everything and 30% boost to research, and you need to quickly mop them up after they have weakened themselves and your rivals fighting each other before they get out of control.
you can also summon daemons through a portal, and there's something to do with some queen creature thingy

>>337007537
Am I distracting you from all your non-discussion about a game that isn't out yet?
The last thread lasted for 5 hours, anon.
>>337007596
So nothing significant?
Tech is meme mana points and westernisation is fucking trivial, and 99% of the time not even worth it because the AI is so shit at colonialism and expansion that you'll be fighting your own tech group basically the entire game. Unless you're in the Americas tech group is barely relevant because you can easily fix it before it ever becomes a problem, and most games it never will.
Religion is just trading cardinal mana that you can spend on lump bonuses for Piety % that grants you a static bonus, and that's it.
Political situation is "hurr Oman is surrounded by different countries than England", but it doesn't change how you play. If I changed Oman to have all the same policies, religion, government and etc. as England you would still deal with your political situation in an identical way. You play to the situation, sure, but you don't play differently than you would if any other country was in the same situation.
Same with geography and being an island.

Do we know yet if its possible to only have aliens as slaves?
why are there no reviews out yet?
Can I make a race of superhumans who actually grow stronger due to inbreeding and whose race started when a mother forced her one son to impregnate his 24 sisters over and over again, in the meantime taking control over the world and using his semen to artificially impregnate more woman. Because of a medical condition, he can only conceive females and so all the members of the race, par him, are female. After taking control of the Earth they started killing humans, killing literally the entire male population but leaving fertile woman for breeding. They started to conquer other planets and in time, also mixing their human-based DNA with DNA of other races creating many subraces like dragon race, undead race, demon race, AI race, Eldritch monstrosity race etc. and after 900 years of warfare, they took control of the entire Milky Way and after that and 100 years of peace, their new leader started a war on another Galaxy but because she posses the power of hivemind, using brains of people in her proximity like additonal computing power, she was able to take control over entire Galaxy in matter of years. Also, she did that to gather enough power and save the founders of their race from their time-travelling ancestor whose conciousness after death goes back to the time when death was avoidable, but keeping her memories. She made a rift in time and killed that ancestor in the past.
Oh, also this race became more humane and less fixated on genocide after counterparts of Mother, Son and Sisters from the other Universe came by. Sadly, in a process, both the Mother and Son died.
So yeah, can I play out such scenario?
>>337008150

>>337013794
>only bad traits
fucking kek
>>337013982
You have to set up the station I would imagine.
>>337013982
Nope. The stars in the galaxy have pre-set lanes between them which you use for hyperspace travel. For wormholes you build a station and it basically slingshots your fleet a large distance in any direction of your choosing, but only one way, so if you don't have another wormhole station on the other side you're stuck with STL travel all the way back home.
>>337013982
Hyperlane Network is naturally occurring.
Wormhole Stations have to be built.
>>337013982
>Wormholes
You need a wormhole station that lets you port from any system to other within its range. Your ship designs do not need to make room for warpdrives/hyperdrives.
Downsides are expansion will be slow as you need to set up stations every so often and your fleets can be left stranded if you lose a wormhole station
>Hyperspace
There are lanes between certain systems that you have to follow. Travelling through them is the fastest of the FTL methods and very cheap. You can also jump from any point in the system while you have to exit the system for wormholes.
Downsides are there might not be a direct path to where you want to go, so you might have to make roundabout trips to go something. You also have to make room on your ships for the hyperdrive.

MU-MU-MUSHROOM MEN!
>>337013982
It's probably something like Sword of the Stars, where wormholes require massive structures to tear open holes in space, while hyperspace takes advantage of the naturally occurring folds in space. In other words, wormholes can be created between any two points but at great cost, while hyperspace lanes are fixed but with little cost.

Node lanes are the best FTL tech; even with mid game drive tech it only takes one or two turns to move between systems. The only thing that matches that is the Hivers farcasters, and that's end-game tech.
R8 my empire.
The Slavs have finally managed to reunite into a single people after thousands of years of separation. Now after wiping out all the degenerates and subhumans of Earth through a combination of genocide and integration, the entire galaxy lay open for their conquest.
I'll wipe out all disgusting creatures (like bugs and slugs) in my way, but spare and maybe cooperate with some of the nicer mammalians, avians and reptilians, so that the game doesn't get boring.

>>337014693
the hivers can't defend all their systems all at once though thanks to the capacity limits, while the node lanes have no restrictions outside of connections. Plus with no way to detect fleets inside node lanes you have the advantage of surprise as well.

I'll probably spec into wormhole and hyperdrive. I'll make wormhole networks from the core to the edges of my empire for fast travel to and from the frontier. Moving around the middle of the empire will be handled by hyperdrive lanes.
Also, building up a massive fleet and wormhole jumping right into an opponents homeworld for a surprise attack sounds fun as fuck.

Everyone here's fickle as fuck, anyway. At first they praise games as saviors of x genre, insanely overrate them regardless if they're actually good or not, and then just stop giving a shit once they get their fill and simply say "meh, it's okay".

Actually, it really is ogre. Because with all the normies now getting wind of Paradox' titles, Paradox will try to turn the negativity by catering to them and them alone.
>>337016086
this game doesnt even popular, why the fyck you waste your time?
>Spaceships can move in 3 dimensions
>Space battles are just a flat fleet vs a flat fleet shooting shit at each other like a space era musket line battle
PIRATE WHEN?
>>337016236
Robots and their portraits are already in game
Starting races =/= all races
>>337016297
No GOG version, so it'll be a little while. Probably tomorrow.
>>337016272
Its a video game.
>>337016039
See
>>337016185
The latest dev diary included a tutorial on how to do it.
>>337008826
Then fuck off to your weebshit or overwatch thread you fucking nigger
>>337016272
>leave the line of battle
>get immediately assblasted by 8 million ships who have nothing to target other than your sad ass sitting in the middle of the void alone, and outside of the network of point defence systems in the rest of your fleet
>>337016365
>GOG version
Thank you dude. I shall warm my cockers and shiver me timbers until then.
What is the differences between the wormholes, warp drives and hyperspace?
>>337016448
fucking reading comprehension
Is GMG not gonna release the CD Keys until the minute Stellaris comes out? I had hoped to preload.
>>337016423
>scatter and split
>enemy actually has to aim at something instead of shooting in your fleet's general direction in order to hit
>>337016448
NO GOG version. As in "NO"
>>337016521
It's like 4 gb there is no preload.
>>337016521
there is no preload. the game is 4gb.
>>337016448
Don't belive his lies it will be out in like a hour or two
>>337016272
I always imagine them to have overlapping shields/PDS
>>337016528
>aim
>space
Do you want realism or do you want a good game?
Because realistic space combat is the most boring form of combat that will ever occur.
>>337016498
Warp Drives can go anywhere no restrictions, are slower, need to go to the edge of a system to travel.
Hyperspace - Restricted to mapped out hyperlanes. Can be blocked off if another empire sits at an exit node of those hyperlanes. Fast as fuck, can jump from anywhere in the system
Wormholes - Fastest travel from system to system, needs to have a wormwhole station in the system though - if destroyed you're fucked
>>337016498
https://youtu.be/9TI9tzLD8WQ?t=519
Note that he's slightly mistaken about hyperlanes. They're generated at the start of the game and all empires use the same lanes, but unless you either use hyperdrives yourself or research a rare mid-game tech, you can't actually see the lanes.
>>337016528
Self-guiding missiles ensure that aiming isn't the problem, anon. The closer you stick together the more your point defences can cuck their missiles and force them to use actual guns.
>>337016574
>>337016554
Fair enough.
Just want my fucking Key.
>>337014467
>Ascendancy mentioned
I'm positively surprised about RPS
>>337016616
Wow theres some compelling reasons to choose any of them
I hope a "best" FTL method never gets found
>>337016608
realistic space combat that has never existed?
>>337016774
The deeper you go into research, new methods open up. Should make for an interesting choice
>>337016795
NASA has already looked into it. TLDR version space combat will involve someone targeting you at ridiculous distances and killing you before you know what hits you.
>tfw too poor to buy this game
Ughhhhhhh
Make space bigger and better an stronger than ever before
We will build a space wall, and who is going to pay for the wall?
>>337016039
Making a paperdoll dance around is easier than you think it is.
>>337007296
Can you take out a fallen empire? Or are they so far advanced that they would slap your shit no matter what you do?
>>337016958
Just Pirate then
>>337017036
You can and will in the mid- to late game
>>337017036
you can fuck their shit if you git gud
Is Steam workshop integrated?
If not, there is literally no reason to not pirate, especially when hundreds of dollars of DLC is probably planned.
>>337017024
>>337017024
>>337017024
Will be last thread before release, I guess
>>337017036
Sure you can in mid and late game, they tough but they can't restore they ships
In stream all players united and tried to take fallen empire in the early game, but were streamrolled
>>337017036
You can. Their fleets are finite and they don't rebuild them.
>>337007462
>40k Portraits already being made
>Your favorite race is Edge Eldar
>So irrelevant they make Tau look important
Welp looks like I'm waiting for the last Portrait pack release.
>>337017036
You can. Fallen empires dont make new ships, so every ship defeated is a win for you. But they are super super strong. You will need a massive empire or alliance to take them down.
>>337016774
one thing to note is if you dont take hyperspace travel you cannot see the hyperspace lanes, however it's possible to research tech that lets you see them and this can give you a massive advantage over hyperspace empires because you know exactly where they can attack from and if your using warp or wormhole you dont need to attack from the same position
Why are they called fallen empires when they are very well alive and dangerous?
>>337017269
Sortof like how Rome isn't an empire anymore, it's Italy.
>>337016924
ah well then, case closed. That's what space combat will turn into. No if ands or buts.
>>337017246
The more I hear about Hyperspace travel, the shittier people make it seem to be. Is it only gonna be viable for getting an early game leg up and that is it?
>>337014124
>but only one way, so if you don't have another wormhole station on the other side you're stuck with STL travel all the way back home.
it's actually both ways, as long as you have a station in range you can get back even if the system you land in has no station
that said though if the station gets blown up you are fucked
>>337017269
Retreated within their borders?
ex. Byzantine was a tough nut to crack for a very long time after the Roman empire fell.
Only 1 and a half hours to go boys!!
>>337017269
European Dark Ages basically.
The smart people fucked off and left the outer reaches in charge of their technology.
Brits had no idea how to maintain roads or public order and things fell apart for hundreds of years.
These Fungi are driven by a spiritual union to spread their spores among the stars. Though they are physically weak and repugnant even by the standards of other fungoids, they are swift to spread among the hyperspace routes that are the natural roots to space travel, and they are surprisingly adaptive. With weaponry based on their reproduction, just throw spores at it until it becomes you, The Infection will spread from holy Daerb'Tsol.
>>337017370
Its probably the best FTL method in war.
Wormhole based FTL will collapse when your frontier stations get knocked out while Warpdrives are entirely all-in. You jump into a system and can't escape it for some time before your drive cools down.
>>337006420
1 hour 28 minutes until release and i still dont have my key from GMG
>>337013132
Holy shit you're right
How the fuck can they say the mid-late has problems if they've never played it?
>>337017370
>>337017246
Can't you research multiple FTL anyway? So you can use Hyperspace to get that early rapid spread, then later research warp to get that option to get in from any angle.
>>337017581
apparently there's GMG issues according to the devs on twitch stream right now. They ran out and new ones are being distributed but the amount of pre-orders are out weighing them.
mega link, when? inb4 people who defend getting ripped off by dlc and launch bugs.
>>337017197
slaves are a thing in this game, not sure if they'd be the last
>>337016924
yeah it's been known forever
That's how banks presents it in The Culture and those books started in like the 80's
>>337016365
Paradox games have no DRM other than Steam's shit. The torrent is always out within minutes.
r8 m8s
So what are the known bugs that are going to be present at release?
I know about the non-existence of Slave Revolts and how apparently the friendly wormhole AI is a bit buggy from
>>337017723
Nice /pol/ memes pham
>>337017370
Everything is a tradeoff. Warp is slow as balls, wormhole is restricted to a structure so is shit for aggression.
>>337017723
i dont like joke civs.
>>337017370
it's the fastest ftl method, if you wanna go fast you gotta make sacrifices, same way wormhole is insanely fast and versatile but if you lose a generator your fleets can be completely stranded
like luring the kebab deathblob onto an island and blockading them to keep them there, good times
>>337017370
You will be able to make your own hyperlanes late game though.
>>337012103
Fuck I loved that shitty ass movie
>>337018083
>shitty
YOU ARE SHITTY
>>337018083

http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/stellaris/user-reviews
Its over.
>Stellaris got a 6.3/10
>Civilization 5 got a 9/10
literally no point in playing Stellaris
