So the point of the Undead Settlement was that they were dissecting Undead and dumping their remains in the pit? They "cured" the curse by making it so there wasn't enough left of them in one piece to reanimate, but eventually the curse spread to the Workers and the tree came to life from absorbing the curse from all the dissected hollows piled up at its roots. The living cage monsters are hollows that were being shipped in for dissection and the dead ones are the ones that were being sent off to the pit. Also the Evangelists were being sent from the Cathedral to collect sacrifices for Aldrich to eat. Is that about right?

You're mistaking dark for the abyss. The dark age doesn't literally mean the sun goes out. The parallels between Vendrick and the PC (of both 1&2) are pretty obvious. Vendrick was the chosen undead of his age, but refused to link the fire (description on Soul of the King).
If you only played the game at launch, go watch Vendrick's dialogue on youtube. It wasn't added until after the DLC and it explains it all.

Priscilla is a separate entity to Yorshka, though. The Lifehunt Scythe implies that Aldritch was going to eat Priscilla next, or maybe even already had. He uses the Scythe in his fight, so perhaps he ate her a long time ago. Yorshka may be some relation, but she isn't Priscilla.

Aldrich doesn't use Lifehunt in the fight. He uses the Gravelord sword. His soul can turn into a Lifehunt miracle, but miracles are only stories. So he doesn't have the real thing, just a vision of it transposed into a story.
Yorshka also knows nothing about the world. If Gwyndolin told her that she's a child of Gwyn, she has no reason to believe otherwise. They drive that point home by having her wonder if Ashen One is a bird or a dragon since they must've flown to her.
I think the most likely explanation is that Yorshka is Ocelotte, raised as a girl by the king of traps himself. It makes even more sense if the Queen of Lothric does have a relation to Gwynevere like a ton of people are speculating.

The ring on your character just makes them perform opposite actions, but the lore of the ring suggests it actually changes the gender when worn, either for a long period or when worn by a god. The reason you need the Lords of Cinder is because of the entropy of the flame. At first all it needed was a powerful soul and a powerful undead to kindle it. But every Linkin it needs a bit more. By now it needs several powerful Lords of Cinder and a powerful unkindled to link. Eventually it may just be impossible to link the flame because linking the fire would take more power and energy than exists in the world.

Next cycle they'll need 6 lords, then 7, then 8, then 9, then 10. Eventually there won't be enough lords, and they'll have to round up undead by the thousands to sacrifice to the flame, then by the millions. Then they'll have to feed the fire with hundreds of gods.
Eventually the fire will need SO much power that the world just can't link it any more. That's what entropy is, the unstoppable loss of energy. Every time they link the fire they lose all that power and it becomes harder to link again.

They all linked the flame, that's what fucking makes them lords of cinder. Lothric is the only one who didn't, and so he's not a real lord of cinder. But he's a powerful soul no less, and so is used in the ceremony.

So he told his followers to do all the work, and so they went and killed some lords, collected some powerful souls, then they carried Aldrich in a big bucket up to the Kiln so he could link the fire himself and gain all the benefits.

Watching the fight is pretty fun too. I personally didn't get to watch too much since I was always summoning, but over the 2 hours I saw some cool ass builds and weaons. Plus it's only one or two fights max you have to wait.

Dark 3 plot: The fire has been linked so many times that it is becoming harder. The one destined to link it turned away, and so it awakens you to do that instead. You need to burn previous linkers to accomplish this.
I don't think Dark 3 is a carbon copy at all. It's just that it's like Zelda, in that you have the structure of fighting the four big bosses then linking the fire. Similar pacing structure doesn't mean the actual story is copy pasted.
I just wish we had a Souls game in the Prime Time of an Eras Life and not after it's been destroyed and getting royally fucked over. In Dark Souls 1 you meet all these people from fascinating places in the world but never go to them outside the one place but apparently you were taken back in time to just the same place you were.

"Pus of Man" is supposedly their official name, which suggests an affiliation with the Dark. All of this tar in the game is associated with the Deep. The slimes are weak to fire, and only found in areas associated with the Deep (Cathedral, Anor Londo), places Aldrich has been recently. The tar beasts also mutate from hollows, suggesting they're a manifestation of their humanity.

Oceiros discovered Seathe's research through the "heretics" of the Grand Archives. Naturally, he decided that the best way to harness his royal blood was by becoming a slimy skin-dragon.
Naturally, this wasn't well-received by others, which is why you only encounter other, less successful dragon-wretches in the Irythyll Dungeon. I'd have to assume they were locked up for being sick freaks; they're obviously somewhat sentient, they can craft and use weapons.
The black "dragons" are humanity bursting out of Hollows with red eyes (and dragons, including Lothric and Lorian's twin dragons). The Abyss Watchers tainted by the abyss also have red eyes.
