So in case you didn't hear or don't play Warframe, the new update has revealed a fairly big thing- Warframes are just suits, and you're a psychic child that's been controlling your suits from a coma all this time. You get to choose from a few faces and four voices, and bam. This is it. This is your character. You even get dialogue choices to decide what some of your new powers will be.
This alone isn't a terribly big deal, but what drives me up the wall is that this has been an increasing trend in videogames, by which I mean throwing away silent and/or faceless protagonists in favor of established, voiced ones. Fallout. Dragon Age. Mass Effect. Destiny. Even Halo, to a degree. This is popping up absolutely everywhere, and I know I can't be the only one who hates it.
I hate to throw in a buzzword that doesn't mean anything, but this is literally meme game design. The argument you hear is "well, it makes dialogue more emotional!" and to a certain degree, I get that. But in a game where you're supposed to be in complete control of your character, where the character is supposed to serve as a surrogate for the player, all this does is throw in a super obnoxious degree of segregation between the player and the character. Say you actually are emotionally invested in a dialogue sequence. Unless by some miracle your character has the same emotional reaction and inflections that you would've had yourself, the effect is, IMO, just jarring.

that said the way the child works in game just makes it another character

Is this game really that bad? We all can agree that it had terrible start and got abandoned relatively quickly, but i have to say I enjoy it a lot more than Napoleon which feels such downgrade compared to Empire.
Best total war to date, lot of places to conquer, lots of different nations and good naval battles. Onoy bad thing is those tedious siegebattles because they're the same everytime
Well, it's far more clunky than Napoopan (and Fall of the Samurai for that matter) in terms of UI, combat and pretty much everything they have in common.
Longer time span, good tech tree and wider geographical scope are what it has going for it and they certainly aren't minor things, but the scope unfortunately comes at a cost of minuscule detail ("capture the entire France in one battle" kind of issue).

Is there any open world game/rpg that provides the player with a lot of choices that heavily effects the world?
