Jesus Christ, why do we give Nintendo money again?
Look at what they've been doing with localization all these years (pic related). Sure, Sony also did it in the Playstation 1 era, but even back then it was minimal in comparison and today it's essentially non-existant, with one or two cases popping up from time to time. Microsoft rarely did it in its lifetime and the PC is basically a censor-free zone.
>why do we give Nintendo money again?
what's this "we" shit?
I give Nintendo money when they do a good job on something. And I don't when they don't.

Unreal Tournament 4 thread. Gonna dump a bunch of screenshots and webms I made. My ign is KICKFLIPGOD so add me
>What is it?
UT4 (Unreal Tournament) Is the latest Unreal game, it's in pre-alpha and sorta dead outside of daytime hours so i'm trying to get more people into it. It plays more like UT3 than '99/04 but takes a few steps in the right direction. They added a slide and a wall run for mobility but still haven't brought back the air dodge. Shield gun is still gone but now the impact hammer has an alt-fire that fires a burst of air which destroys projectiles. It's completely free with the exception of hats, and everything gets made by the community. Epic is doing a pretty decent job of keeping things up to date and they add tons of community-created content every month. They've supported competitive play a lot and have already held a few tournaments.
It's still doesn't compare to 2004, but it's much less dumbed-down than UT3 so it's something.
Here's a recent concept they did for a robot from Corrupt
I messed around for a long time trying to figure out how to best make webms so they will be varying qualities and resolutions.
Why did Sonic franchise die while Mario is still going strong? Is it because it has an animal as the protagonist?
Sonic could have died for me if Sonic Unleashed was hogwash but I had fun with it so I kept going.
If I played Sonic Boom I'd probably be done forever but luckily I have not.
because sonic team can't make a good game
because mario games are good and sonic games are shit, especially once they went 3d

I've been playing the same game of Civ II for 10 years. Though long outdated, I grew fascinated with this particular game because by the time Civ III was released, I was already well into the distant future. I then thought that it might be interesting to see just how far into the future I could get and see what the ramifications would be. Naturally I play other games and have a life, but I often return to this game when I'm not doing anything and carry on. The results are as follows.
The world is a hellish nightmare of suffering and devastation.
There are 3 remaining super nations in the year 3991 A.D, each competing for the scant resources left on the planet after dozens of nuclear wars have rendered vast swaths of the world uninhabitable wastelands.
-The ice caps have melted over 20 times (somehow) due primarily to the many nuclear wars. As a result, every inch of land in the world that isn't a mountain is inundated swamp land, useless to farming. Most of which is irradiated anyway.
-As a result, big cities are a thing of the distant past. Roughly 90% of the worlds population (at it's peak 2000 years ago) has died either from nuclear annihilation or famine caused by the global warming that has left absolutely zero arable land to farm. Engineers (late game worker units) are always busy continuously building roads so that new armies can reach the front lines. Roads that are destroyed the very next turn when the enemy goes. So there isn't any time to clear swamps or clean up the nuclear fallout.
-Only 3 super massive nations are left. The Celts (me), The Vikings, And the Americans. Between the three of us, we have conquered all the other nations that have ever existed and assimilated them into our respective empires.
-You've heard of the 100 year war? Try the 1700 year war. The three remaining nations have been locked in an eternal death struggle for almost 2000 years. Peace seems to be impossible. Every time a cease fire is signed, the Vikings will surprise attack me or the Americans the very next turn, often with nuclear weapons. Even when the U.N forces a peace treaty. So I can only assume that peace will come only when they're wiped out. It is this that perpetuates the war ad infinitum. Have any of you old Civ II players out there ever had this problem in the post-late game?
-Because of SDI, ICBMS are usually only used against armies outside of cities. Instead, cities are constantly attacked by spies who plant nuclear devices which then detonate (something I greatly miss from later civ games). Usually the down side to this is that every nation in the world declares war on you. But this is already the case so its no longer a deterrent to anyone. My self included.
-The only governments left are two theocracies and myself, a communist state. I wanted to stay a democracy, but the Senate would always over-rule me when I wanted to declare war before the Vikings did. This would delay my attack and render my turn and often my plans useless. And of course the Vikings would then break the cease fire like clockwork the very next turn. Something I also miss in later civ games is a little internal politics. Anyway, I was forced to do away with democracy roughly a thousand years ago because it was endangering my empire. But of course the people hate me now and every few years since then, there are massive guerrilla (late game barbarians) uprisings in the heart of my empire that I have to deal with which saps resources from the war effort.
-The military stalemate is air tight. The post-late game in civ II is perfectly balanced because all remaining nations already have all the technologies so there is no advantage. And there are so many units at once on the map that you could lose 20 tank units and not have your lines dented because you have a constant stream moving to the front. This also means that cities are not only tiny towns full of starving people, but that you can never improve the city. "So you want a granary so you can eat? Sorry; I have to build another tank instead. Maybe next time."
-My goal for the next few years is to try and end the war and thus use the engineers to clear swamps and fallout so that farming may resume. I want to rebuild the world. But I'm not sure how. If any of you old Civ II players have any advice, I'm listening.
I can't believe America survived

People are always talking about how gameplay should be more important than narrative, graphics, sound design, etc., but I'm not at all clear about how to define gameplay.
Those other things feel quantifiable to me, at least insofar as they can be seen in isolation from the rest of the work. But gameplay, to me, seems to require things like narrative, graphics, and sound design in order to be experienced.
What is your definition of "gameplay"?
>>319834083
How you play the game. Come on anon.
>>319834918
Take the question seriously.
Like, the story and visuals of a game can be mapped, charted and described. It can be described in terms of things like dialogue, themes, tone, and choices.
But the gameplay? Where are the limits there? What defines it? How could you describe the gameplay of, say, X-Com without referencing narrative elements. Statements like "killing aliens" or even "turn-based combat" require to take in and digest the narrative content first, don't they?
For me, gameplay is the mechanics. The quality of gameplay is the intuitiveness, depth, and fun of controlling the game.
I'll start

I currently own a PS4, 3DS, and PC.

Probably nothing, I hate handhelds. I regret my 3DS.
>Wii U
Xenoblade tempted me. It'd probably have to be a huge new IP, because I've passed on most of the major Nintendo series I use to love already by now. Athough I'd go for something like Super Mario Sunshine 2.
Honestly it just needs to be cheaper. Why the fuck it costs as much as a PS4 is beyond me. So, there it is: I'd buy it for $150 price, or for Sunshine 2.
>Xbone
I wasn't a huge 360 or original xbox fan, and the only Microsoft games I ever really loved were their old first party PC games. And since I already have a PC/PS4, and it has almost no third party exclusives, that's a pretty hard sell.
If they dropped paid online, I might think about it.

Anyone else in the US having trouble getting multiplayer to work? It's a piece of shit, but it's a fun piece of shit. Multiplayer actually intrigues me though, and it just refuses to look for match. Leaderboards are all fucked too.
Is it as bad as everyone says? No More Heroes got its fair share of hate, but I actually love those games. I'm not optimistic at all about Devil's Third, but curious.

Framerate drops are pretty bad. But the fps to melee is well done enough to be fun. Dialogue and cut scenes are drenched in Itagaki nonsense. If the multiplayer would fucking work I feel like I'd love it like an ugly dog.

why was the PSP so based, /v/?
It wasn't. The games were short as fuck. Ended up using it for porn until I dropped hand held gaming all together.
>>319833121
>dropped handheld gaming
You mean like how I dropped this opinion?
>>319832867
>>several console ports and spinoffs that are actually as fun as the originals
One of the major problems with the PSP was the abundance of console ports where the devs just attempted to squeeze the entire console game onto the system, resulting in long load times and really shitty control schemes.
Most of us agree that the story was the main low part of this game.
My question to you is what are your major grievances with it?
More cutscenes? Less cassettes? More keifer? More campiness?
>More cutscenes? Less cassettes? More keifer? More campiness?
None of this really. I'm fine with the majority of the game. I just wish Chapter 2 would have been called "Epilogue" and had more new missions and no repeat ones. And having Episode 51 would be nice too, but it's still just one mission so I'm not too upset.
>>319832750
As much as I love the gameplay, the repeat missions bugged me.
