You know what? I'm cautiously hopeful.
Yeah, it'll most likely be shit, but there's at least a little evidence it might be alright.
First of all, the game takes place in a new location, and the aesthetic is nothing like the NSMB trash we got for SS and PJ. It actually looks new and fresh.
Second of all, the trailer said that Mario would "Search for clues" as to what caused the island's miserable fate. This obviously means that Bowser won't show up at the beginning of the game to be revealed as the silent, primary antagonist.
I dunno. I've learned to not have faith in Nintendo and my speculation is unhealthy and counter-productive, but I just can't help but hold on. Please help me /v/.

The story wasn't even my biggest problem with SS. It was that it was an adventure game platformer hybrid where there was no significant platforming and all the puzzles were "use bowling ball on bowling pins" shit.

Why does the combat in this RPG(!!) have to be fucking touchscreen minigames?! Is this what people like nowadays? Kids can't use strategy by choosing abilities that they have to shove minigames in combat to win?

By the way, I gave this game to some of my younger cousins to try and they kept on tapping the display screen instead of the touch screen underneath. Same for library kids, who were probably raised on phone games.

Is Dayz still worth buying or is it completely fucked?
The Standalone was never worth buying into in the first place. It piles on shitty unnecessary microupdates and never fixed any of the core issues of the game, like it not having any zombies, combat being complete unsynced ass and framerates tanking on even top end PCs in built up/urban areas.
The original mod had its fare share of issues back in early 2012 but it was still relatively solid. You know, back when it actually had zombies. Then Reddit and YouTube latched on to it, its popularity skyrocketed and it never recovered from it.
I'm still really pissed I can't refund the Standalone.
Don't go near it OP. I haven't tried them but play any of the other DayZ unofficial mods for ARMA II and III or its derivatives, they're supposed to be much better
