Even though (platform)fighting games have relatively more black fans than other genres, video games in general are pretty white. Also, MvC and SF knowledge don't transfer over as much as they do to other fighters.
And there are a lot of old-school Nintendo fans(mostly white) that picked up the game because of the mascots.
Is magical middle ages / D&D ish lore boring? I am in the midst of developing an action dungeon crawler, and at First I thought Sword and sorcery is the setting I wanted, but I'm beginning to feel like its trite. The alternatives is converting it to a Shadowrun/mass effect loreish game where magic is technology. I was semi interested in current gen tech and magic but that seems way to Edgy.

Dune (the book) is set in the future, real into the fucking future, but it has some medieval shit slapped into it. It feels fresh.

Halo's not bad, although it depends on your opinion of the series. If you're undecided, grab the MCC. If you like the MCC, Halo 5 isn't actually too bad, although the campaign is forgettable. Multiplayer is damn good. Also, Sunset Overdrive and Killer Instinct are pretty decent. Forza's one of the better racing games out there.

I don't see why people play magic builds in these games. Magic trivializes what makes these games interesting and is just no very well implemented. It's mostly just 10 variants on the same projectile and turns the entire game into just kiting. Why even bother playing at that point?
Other games do magic better, why no go play a game where a magic build is actually fun to play? The only real purpose of the magic build in the Souls series is that it's the hidden easy mode option for people that just want to see the game without the challenge.
