Dark Souls III is just 18.2 GB in digital size. For the record, Bloodborne was 25.3 GB.
This is not looking good. Will the game suffer from lack of content? It does seem a bit rushed, judging by the trailers and the huge marketing push for the already planned DLC.

So I've only played doom as a kid and at a friend's place and I want to actually play through the series. Obviously I should start with the first doom but which version? The original on dosbox? Or some of the pc ports? I honestly know NOTHING about doom.

there really is just one "version", but through which software you run is up to you.
I'd recommend using a modern source-port tool these days. If you want best authenticity, no additions of any sort, just better compatibility and options, get Chocolate Doom.
If you want quite authentic experience with SOME "enhancements", get zDoom. But make sure you don't have new shit, like vertical aiming, jumping or shit like bloom enabled.

in saying that, he has gave his final word on the matter, that he doesn't care if you like it or not and doesn't have any interest in validating his tastes for you
instead of trying to pull him back into an argument after that, step back and accept it's over, and that you're not under attack just because he likes something that you don't
Because in that case that is all that matters, you can tell people a game is shit and give them reasons why it's shit, but if they're enjoying it, that's not really something you can argue about or criticize against.
