The game was announced ten years ago. They need this to be their highest selling game ever and reinvigorate the Final Fantasy series.
However, while all this investment can increase profit, it also increases the risk.
They think FF is big enough to the point where each game can be a franchise itself.

When will this meme end? Started playing the Final Fantasy series with 9 and loved 13 at release. Yeah, it was linear as fuck, but it was so fucking comfy and the characters were pretty great.

I think the next Mass Effect game will be shite.
Not because I'm in any way salty over ME3. Sure, the ending was terrible, but I really liked the stuff leading up to it.
No, it's because I don't have any faith that Bioware can hack it any more when it comes to writing.
Look at Dragon Age Inquisition. Several websites claimed it was the best RPG of 2014 and then, just 7 months later, we get the Witcher 3... a game that highlights just how much of a joke DAI is.
Granted, the Dragon Age games have always been a cashgrab for Bioware; trite fantasy tropes, shat out to be eaten up by plebs, so they can acquire funds to fund their REAL games series Mass Effect, but so much has happened in gaming since ME3
I have no idea who is left at the writing staff at Bioware, but if it's the same ones who worked on DA:I and spend all their breaks reading Twilight, 50 Shades of Grey and Polygon, then Mass Effect Andromeda will be an absolute trainwreck.
Just remember, you can fight like a krogan, run like a leopard but you'll never be better than Commander Shepard.
