I played it as a kid until I got to a point where it became literally unwinnable. I don't know how I got that far, it was all dumb luck.
But yes, the AI is ridiculously unfair and cheats constantly, as well as the game barely giving you anything decent to fight back with (very low money/bad cards compared to the previous game). The AI is almost rubber band AI, they get infinitely better if you're winning and pull whatever they need out of their ass.
In short, it's shit.

Why did anyone think this was a good premise for a game? It doesn't expect you to do any self-reflection, it just outright berates you for progressing through the story. Is that not why we play video games?
This game seriously needed some choice that wasn't bleak as fuck so at least when you do something horrific, you deserve to be admonished for it.The gameplay is alright, though.

spec ops was an ~almost~ unfun slog of just brutal, spartan third person cover shooter shit that felt like it was just trying to drag you further and further down to the basal, grim and destitute level of the gameplay for the entire time, centered around a plot involving steady but gradual degeneration of the player character as an amicable human being, it really isn't unwise to compare it to heart of darkness or some shit with the angles that some characters occupy.

Is there anyone out there who's getting tired of this game?
Sure the first moments were fun but it seems like all the title has to offer is little and it deals with just basic team v team mechanics, Competitive turned out to be shit, and the Quick Play has just become a coin flip to determine how good the next match would be.
It's up to you to have fun.
I was frustrated and bored with it after the initial novelty wore off, but to truly become interested again you have to invest time. Learn the intricacies and mechanics of all the champs, counters, maps, flanks, etc.
I just treat it like a learning opportunity everytime I play now. If you go in with the mentality the game is boring because you die unfairly you will not enjoy it. If you try to understand what went wrong and how to improve you will have fun. Also playing with friends helps.
Kind of gave up and started shitting around with the characters I never play, starting to enjoy it again now that I don't take it seriously anymore.

Of course V is unfinished, and could have been so much more, but it's STILL pretty fucking great. Hands-down the most tight, polished, fun gameplay in the series. What's there of the story IS good, and completes just about every unanswered question.
People (only on here, for some reason) can't accept that Konami, a giant company that is difficult to "hate", went fucking insane and pulled the rug out from under this game.
This is the best Final Fantasy game of all time.
