Do Japs actually like the visual novel style or is it just that game companies use it because it's sufficiently reduces production costs?
I'm not talking about visual novel games but when that style of story telling is used in Japanese console games

The reason I made this thread is that I feel like this game which has nearly 500 different items is carried hard by ~20 items which actually make the game fun and I believe it would never have been such a success without these items.

You can definitely start with Bloodborne, but some of the challenge comes from unlearning certain aspects of souls, which makes the game all the more engaging.
