I just couldn't get into Persona 3, I LOVE the music, artwork and general atmosphere that the game presents but character wise and plot wise, I just couldn't get into it. I felt like the story was really dark, the overall atmosphere was kind of gloomy and didn't present a carefree/happy go lucky vibe that was given in Persona 4. Overall Persona 4 was a lot more colorful and upbeat, seems like they went for a much more gloomy overtone in Persona 3 and a lot of fans ate that shit up. I'm not trying to claim one is better than the other, honestly more people claim Persona 3 was far superior to Persona 4 but I think they both had redeeming qualities and non-redeeming qualities. Of course that's all subjective to the player, I didn't care for how dark and dreary Persona 3 was. Persona 4 had it's moments but nothing like Persona 3, but the fact that Persona 3 went for the gloomier route did unlock certain doors that Persona 4 couldn't access.
The music is phenomenal in both games, I sometimes just listen to the soundtracks of both games at night while browsing the internet. I really wanted to like Persona 3 since so many people I know are big fans of it, I just couldn't get into it. It makes me feel a bit sad because it seems like they were seeing something in it that I couldn't, I mean, they like Persona 4 but not nearly as much as they like Persona 3.

Yeah, I won't argue that. I get that Persona 3 had a deeper more complex story, I just really felt more drawn to Persona 4. Like I said, not saying Persona 3 was bad but it wasn't my cup of tea.
I honestly can't get into 4. 3 is just much more appealing to me.

Playing it right now but still near of the beginning (defeated Gotou), this one is the PS1 version, right? I wanted to play this one because the soundtrack sounds more rad, but there's no translation.
Also, fusing Pascal (your dog) with a demon for Cerberus is pretty cool, I played the NES ones first and I like how Cerberus keeps being a important recurring demon, does Pascal/Cerberus sacrifices himself in the computer after the doctor boss fight or he just fuses with the machine? I didn't get this part.

The game flows pretty well, in my opinion only the first Megami Tensei in the famicom is extremely inconvenient and almost impossible to finish without a guide, Megami Tensei 2 and SMT are much more playable.

I upgraded for about $50 a while back by selling my 3DS XL, I enjoy the New 3ds. It's definitely not necessary, but I like it. I play a fair bit of Monster Hunter and it is better on the New 3ds. I also want to get around to playing xenoblade, but to answer your question, if you can upgrade for under ~$75 I would recommend it.
If you don't have any other any 3DS model sure.
I'd recommend it if you play lots of monster hunter and plan on playing some of the few exclusive things you can only play on it
If you plan on playing MH, then the New 3DS is better because of the C-Stick, otherwise, it has a slightly better screen and a much better 3D implementation with face tracking. If you don't care about those, then you can go with the older model.
