My Vive showed up! Anyone have any questions?
Money speak not allowed
I've had my Vive for almost a month. Ask me questions instead, as I'll be able to answer them properly.
To start;
- VR is not a gimmick
- every single person i've shown the vive to has their mind blown, and goes on and on about its potential in all fields
- content is a little lacking at the moment, but it's not really the same as traditional video game content. simple things can be fun for a long time; such as space pirate trainer.
- motion controls and room scale are amazing and i can't imagine using VR without it.
- i have a 4x4m room, and it works flawlessly. i would like a larger space. i feel really sorry for people with smaller spaces.
- $800 is an amazing price for what you're getting. i just bought a $1200 monitor, and my Vive is the far better product.

Nope. I'll glady tell you that it's something purely for enthusiasts.
As much as i've enjoyed my Vive over the past month, i don't really recommend anyone buy it, unless they are SUPER EXCITED ABOUT VR.
It's fuckin cool, but not too functional at the moment.

It feels like it needed a couple of more planets in between the Deplanetizer visits, but other than that, it's fine. Quartu could've used more actual level though.
Really fun.
I hope Insomniac does do something new with Ratchet.
Just not another movie tie in.

So, what will Nintendo do once this thing inevitably flops?
No one is excited for this, everyone is just spectating to witness their next blunder. Not just that, but at this point the entire industry is against them. The media hates them, the mass consumer doesn't acknowledge them, the fans are turning away, and the 3rd party devs have no faith in them anymore. They literally need a miracle to make this thing a success, but with PS4k and VR out this holiday, they have no footing to stand on. Those are the hot gimmicks, and even without those, PS4 is easy to dev for, and has a massive install base and varied library.
So, what comes next then?
The NX flops, and then?
I'm excited for it. Most Nintendoomed posters are shitposters and falseflaggers. I'll get it for games to play, just like any other system.
I think nintendo will release an Animal Crossing spin-off that no-one wants instead of a proper AC game. Maybe it could be an amiibo based party game, or a microtransaction infested mobile game.

So can I play this from the get go or do I need to have played the first three to really enjoy it?
I didn't like TLoU. Felt like it tried too hard to be mature "oscar bait" type story and grounded difficulty was a total chore, but I hear Uncharted is much more lax and enjoyable
The collection is fun i guess(if you wanna play those), but id say its better if you just watch a walkthrough of the games, or some kind of video that explains they the points/characters of the game. In short its best if you go in with a decent amount of knowledge of the previous 3 titles.

It's not something where you need to know the exact plot points of the previous games to understand, you won't be lost about where the story is going or anything, each game is a self contained adventure. But you won't have any idea about the characters, so stuff won't have nearly as much weight and you won't get any in-jokes or references.
Imagine watching The Last Crusade without ever having seen Raiders of the Lost Ark. That might not be the best example because Uncharted has more recurring characters......
I suggest you play them, they're cheap and not too long. 1 is pretty dated but still charming, 2 is a master peice and 3 is great in some areas but flawed in others. Or just watch them on YouTube if you don't care about playing and just want the story.
As for gameplay it is much different to TLoU, well as different as it can be in the "cinematic TPS genre". Story is much more lighthearted and stealth is sometimes an option but not the main focus. You move fast, you now down dozens of bad guys and everything follows an exaggerated version of our world, people survive explosions and massive falls, massive temples that would in no way hold together exist everywhere etc.... Quite different to TLoU which tried to be realistic and grounded.

My girlfriend isn't actually autistic but her favorite game list goes STALKER, starcraft, elderscrolls and dota... thats it. I have no idea what to buy her for ps4 and i bought one for her even though she insisted I didnt so now i feel like an ass.

Blackroom is probably the most levelheaded crowd funded project out there. It's basically what every shit eating Romero slamming dickhead here wanted. There will be no reason to complain or not to fund once the demo is ready.
