Playing through it right now, Emma is best girl with teacher in close second. The English dub isn't so terrible, I was expecting a lot worse.

Nah. Carmack has always been a excellent programmer with a thorough knowledge of both hardware and software and how to push them to their limits.
None of that implies "knows how to make a fun video game." Frankly, trying to make the Occulus and it's software run efficiently is exactly the kind of job he needs. It's all tech, no "fun." And on the weekends he can still work on his amateur space program.

Actually, there's a trick that turn this boss fight a lot easier. Right after the fight starts, run towards himand git gud.
After that, everything will be easy.
