So I am liking Bravely Default a lot, and apparently it's an FF spinoff more or less. I've never played FF other than some of 7 which I found slow and boring. Which games in the series are similar to BD (if any)?

Why is this a good thing anyway? If someone beats me in multiplayer in an FPS game it should be just because he outplayed me, and never because he has way more hours in the game and did enough grinding to do more damage than me
