Why is it the game companies insist on putting penalties in videogames?
I get it when it's a MOBA like Dota 2 or LoL but if it's a game where the person can be easily replaced with no problems then why bother?

Because they want to seem like a legit hardcore game. It is the illusion of a casual game to bring in a hardcore audience. COD, Halo, and OW are just some of the many who use these illusions.

I'm not even going to criticize you for buying a multiplat that looks as bad as it does on consoles but for fucks sake have some standards as to how it runs.
If consoles can't even provide a minimum of 30fps as a quality standard then maybe its time to acknowledge the console is shit.
This is without getting into a whole thing about why 30fps is still bad or the games have to look mangled to maintain just that on consoles.

Unless the game is super indie with a small budget and little expectations, he will fall.
Would actually enjoy something neat to play from him, but I feel that he might just be another "hack" or at least a delusional old school creator that is trying to get back in the game for money/fame/glory, etc.
At least Carmack realized he wasn't cut out for the gaming world and went into a another realm where his skills could be utilized better. He's too much of a perfectionist for gaming, and his interests in VR are great since that field really needs some work.

A few hours. It took me 80 hours to complete it.
Name one jrpg that doesn't need to "pick up"
Once you start doing the shrines I guess, the story gets neat, the music gets better, but the game as a whole is still lacking a lot of content. The redeeming factor is the characters and their interactions as well as a couple really wonderful moments.
It's worth playing through the full game to at least experience those special moments.
How is Drakengard 1 gameplay wise? I want to get into it, but a friend of mine who loves the series described the gameplay as awful and said I shouldn't force myself through it. Mind, he only said that about Drakengard 1.

He's right, the gameplay is terrible. Absolute shit. You play it more for the experience. The story, the absolutely fucked up characters that do horrendous things, and the wierd as fuck plot twist that eventually leads into Nier.
Never, ever play Drakengard for the gameplay.
