Need suggestions for PS3 games
English demo is finally out for the new Odin Sphere. What does everyone think of it? Had to look for it under Free/Demos because search doesn't list it.
I love all the new changes. Inventory is much more streamlined and pleasant to use and the new combat mechanics are just fucking great. Combat is much more fun because of it. Mercedes in particular I found pretty hilarious. She just fucking rains death down from her crossbow like it was a fucking anti-aircraft machinegun. All the characters are good now though. Getting rid of photon experience was a good idea and the new skill system and abilities requiring POW.
Only thing I'm curious about is there no longer seems to be a photon release ability to help plant fruit. Was it cut or is it still in the game in some form? Might make harvesting slightly annoying if it isn't because you'll have to plan ahead more.

Two modes to the game: Refined and Classic
Classic maintains the HD graphics, but gameplay and mechanics are exactly the same as the PS2 version.
Refined has everything else:
After you beat the game, there is NG+ and you can pick from different difficulties
Game mechanics have been changed to be more in line with Muramasa Rebirth. POW is now only used for special abilities and Mercedes' regular attacks.
There are now Skill trees and Ability trees. Skill trees you learn stuff by spending points you obtain at level up, you get enough points to obtain everything around level 65. The ability tree, you find items to unlock nodes, then Spend Phozons to learn them.
There is only one kind of levels now, character levels, and you get XP for killing enemies and eating food instead of raising health level. However, food still gives permanent HP boosts.
The English version is being redubbed using a new translation. Sounds like everyone from the original game are back.
There is now a pooka chef you can summon on the maps, you run across bells you ring. You can still go to Pooka Village for making food as well.
Alchemy system has been revamped: max Rank is 9 stars, however you keep an empty bottle after fully consuming a potion. You can fuse bottles together and potions to level up the rank of the bottle. The empty bottles maintain their rank.
The item system: no longer have to buy bags. You can choose to have a radial menu like the original game or a menu where you view all the bags at once.

This looks like a massive bait. Why do you need to chose? Both games are easily pirated and both are routinely discounted on bigger sales: Skyrim is regularly available for like five bucks, there is no reason why you should have to chose between the two.
Play both, see which one you like more.
If for some reason you really have to chose one over the other: Skyrim is a game with a lot of freedom but absolutely no substance: you can do anything but nothing feels particularly satisfying. You can be a thief, a warrior, a mage, chose any of the clans and organizations, tackle any of the hundreds of quests. Except none of it matters because it's all extremely generic, bland, dull. The world building is shit and writing and quests are generally awful.
Witcher is comparative shallow and restrictive: you have predetermined character, deviations in builds are just deviations of flavor of combat, the story railroads you a lot more, you are essentially guiding a guy through his story, rather than building your own.
That said, the stories are beautiful, the world absolutely fantastic, full of memorable places, characters, quests and moments. Seriously it's one of the most beautiful games ever made.
Both games are mechanically shallow. Skyrim attempts to juggle a lot of shit at once, making all of them dull: TW3 attempts to focus at few and comes across as restrictive.
TW3 is a beatiful piece of fiction though.
Skyrim is a shallow wish fulfillment.
TW3 offers less hours of content, with all the expansions, you will have seen everything the game can offer in some 200 hours.
In Skyrim, with mods, you can have thousand hours of content.
TW3 makes those 200 hours feel really worth it.
Skyrim does not make anything feel like anything.
It's up to you.
Even if you never played any Witcher game it would hands down go to the Witcher 3. It's basically a massive step up whwn compared to skyrim in every aspect, except mosding that is?
The animations look great and full of emotion, the amount of content is almost unreal and every quest feels alive and part of te world, it actually makes you important and hard decisions to make as a neutral party.

10 hours into witcher 3 and while i think its a good game. I also think its grossly overrated and misleading on pregame advertising in that its supposed to be a huge open world with no loading times. When in reality its not that open worlded, but a series of maps that do require loading times to travel between, much like inquisition. In fact this game is very similar to inquisition in alot of aspects. Which was also a good game.
But. I was expecting something new and amazing with perfect review scores and all the hype. I am severely let down. I will take a last gen skyrim over this for a few reasons.
1. The one map open world of skyrim was amazing.
2. The quests and dialogue of skyrim is unmatched, from killing an orphanage headmaster, uncovering mage school plots, thieves guild quests, demon quests, cisero lol, on top of the main storyline, etc.
3. 1st person is awesome. Even the dull melee combat of skyrim feels fun in 1st person. But ofc using magic was much more fun and varied.
4. Level system in skyrim is also unmatched imo. Even inquisition had a better leveling system imo.
Witcher 3 has good graphics, good story n quests, good combat, good crafting, etc but just doesnt live up to its hype nor surpass skyrim in any way for me. What u guys think?

I still think the first is the best. Third had issues on release and I wonder how many of you played it with the top down camera. Though I will say it forced me to take it slower so that was kind of cool, you can practically sprint your way through now. I also think I preferred the more serious tone of the first two to the bond spoof hijinks of the third. I will say though that snakeeater had a very solid ending chunk, took me a while to pull that trigger the first time.
Every MGS except the first has had a big backlash upon release.
is this the only case in the souls series where players need to truly git gud?

OK, what the hell is wrong with me?
I've heard nothing but praise for this game, and while I do think it's aesthetically a home-run, I can't help but dislike the gameplay.
I'm 3 missions deep and nothing I do feels good. Every combat scenario is just "run in circles, spam weapon X, throw grenade, do melee finisher, repeat."
Whenever I heard people talk about how GOOD this game felt it made me so pumped to play it. Now whenever I hear similar remarks it makes me so frustrated because I just don't know how anyone could feel that way.
What's wrong with me, /v/?
