If we're just going to be releasing upgraded versions of current hardware, why didn't we just do that with 7th gen?....

they kinda did with the Wii U. The Wii U is fully backwards compatible, with the controllers, the games, the console actually boots to the Wii OS/menu when you want to play Wii games even digital games purchased in the estore on the Wii U.
But it only really works one way when you make a jump in tech
To say, be able to play Wii U games on an original Wii just wouldn't work.
The only reason these new xbox and sony consoles will work is that they're for 4k displays and VR, where the original xbox one and ps4 will still play the same games, just at 1080p and 30fps.
If they had to make it so that PS4 games worked on the PS3.. PS4 games would look really dated.
Microsoft and Sony really should have went full BC though.

I feel like playing an old game. I have a toaster so old games are pretty much all I can play anyway.
Favourite old pc games thread? Pic related is my favourite although recommendations aren't limited to RTS games. Big fan of RPS and such as well.
Also if there's any old games on steam that can run of a toaster that you recommend buying that would be appreciated also.

Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising
RTS/vehicular combat hybrid. You gather resources, build vehicles, give them orders and take direct control of them any time you want. You can customize the vehicles you build too, give them different weapons ranging from howitzers to flamethrowers and addons such as extra armor or a cloaking device.
DOOM runs at 60fps. Look at that game. It's actually next gen. It actually has a real next-gen engine and actually uses the hardware to its fullest advantage, AND its 60fps. On PS4 it even runs at 1080p.
Explain to me, how a game as bad looking as Dark Souls 3, runs BELOW 30. FUCKING EXPLAIN THAT. How does WORSE graphics on an old-gen engine have that fucking low framerate?! I thought game developers employed software engineers to fix this shit. What the actual fuck homies?
btw, i also have the same problem with fallout 4 but that's almost excusable because the game itself is shit anyway so lower framerates are justified.

I pirated the game for my PC and it ran even worse. It had the weirdest framerate ive encountered. Some areas were 60, others we 12.
You shouldn't need a 980GTX and 24GB of ram and an i7@5500ghz to run a game so bad looking.
I have a 970 i7 2600k and it runs like shit for what it looks like.
random drops, 50fps in a lot of areas, stuttering gets worse or better depending on the patch.

I thought Metal Gear Solid V looked better than Uncharted 4.
U4 was certainly more photorealistic at times, but I just thought the artstyle and wonderful lightning in MGSV looked better.
MGSV has that wonderful feeling of colours blending together and really popping. The way lightning reflected on stuff like your mother base was very eye-pleasing.

Birthright and Conquest should be counted under Fates imo. I think the story spit was for no reason other than a cash grab due to how rushed it felt, so I count fates as one whole game. although if I didnt I would still have to say Awakening > Birthright = Conquest > Revelation
