I'm not sure why everyone says to skip SMT I and go straight to II because SMT I is kind of amazing for its time. Still amazing even today. The battles are lightning quick on auto and you can easily fuse demons with Estoma to stop the high encounter rate from hell. It's not hard by any stretch but can be surprising sometimes.

What passes me off about SMT1 is that there's no "replay" feature on autobattle, you have to fucking re-select everything if you don't want to standard attack, even fucking MT2 on NES got this right it makes no sense for the feature to be missing
SMT2 overall is more interesting anyways, even with its two massive fucking fetch quest chores

As far as free MMOs go, it's one of the better options out there.
Space combat is fun.
Ground combat can vary wildly between "kinda fun" and "this guy already has periods of invincibility he doesn't need that much fucking health who tested this shit".
Space Barbie is true endgame.
Also cash shop currency can be bought with in-game currency, though the exchange rate is at it's most fucked point in history right now. But it at least means you can grind for cash shop shit if you don't want to blow actual money on it.

The current version of Rom is much easier compared to Rom during her Launch days.
The missiles back then tracked you liked crazy and there was no DLC area to boost your weapon upgrades before fighting her.
