Reminder that Daenarys's never ending stream of mindless victories and convenience is a setup to make it all the more satisfying when she has her first defeat.
She's shown herself in both the books and the show to be horribly incompetent, just lucky. Her fleet is sailing for Casterly Rock, meanwhile Euron has assembled 1000 ships and may or may not take over Oldtown. He obviously will in the books, in the show it's just a strong possibility. Daenarys will be decimated in a naval battle against Euron and a dragon will be killed.
Punished Dany could actually be a tolerable character, the remaining dragons and soldiers would be used against The Others while King's Landing is essentially abandoned, Cersei ruling the frozen ruins. Jaime will kill her of course.Sam learns a vital bit of history in Oldtown, and when he returns to Jon, they negotiate a new treaty with the white walkers. The seven kingdoms all become independent

For them to end his plot with "Cersei just blows everyone up lel" is really underwhelming. You get the shock value of losing half the fucking cast in one blow but it really does no justice to Sparrow's trajectory as a character
