I disagree for two reasons.
Reason 1, she needed to delay and kill as many as possible. Just throwing a grenade doesn't do enough whereas letting them all gang up on her delays the wights behind them and creates a dense chokepoint where when the grenade blows up, kills a lot more and burns a lot more.
Reason 2, she created the Night's King which led to this moment so seems fitting that she should die at the "hands" of her creation with some dignity and for the sake of men who she created the Walkers to fight in the first place
