With Gallifrey getting sent into a pocket universe, this hybrid thing, plus the amount of Daleks that had already gotten onto Gallifrey's surface and into Arcadia for example, could the Daleks be running their own hybridization experiments?
Could be what the regeneration and lab scene is for, some Time Lord they've put Dalek bits into and are having regenerate so the body integrates everything harmoniously, and to see if it even can regenerate. Personally I got enough enjoyment out of the episode to give it a pass. I also liked that there wasn't a happy ending (although fuck knows what they'll do if they ever revisit that time period). The presentation and pacing kept me along for the ride. It had the usual Gatiss problems of sloppy writing, but the script was a bit more interesting than his usual schlock.
Probably the worst episode of the season but it'd be above average in a previous season.

No it was shit because it was incredibly cheesy and tone-breaking. They set up this whole atmosphere and then shattered it for a cheap "humorous" twist. There could have been a happy ending, there even could have been a love story, it just needed to be presented better.

Tone breaking? Have you ever watched a fourth doctor story? Shit's bread and butter was slowly creeping a situation to a suspenseful climax, then slamming a story hard onto the other fucking direction. All of City of Death did this, Horror of Fang Rock went from an episode about human paranoia against the unknown to zombie alien explosions when they ran out of people to kill. Hell, ROBOT the very first 4 story did that when the villain suddenly became a lonely sympathetic ai out of nowhere while trying to destroy the world. That's why as a 4th doctor homage I can honestly say that they nailed that in Hide.
