except it watched more like a TV show because they made it as pleb as possible and glossed over anything even remotely controversial.

Well, it's about one man going through a war, who's more concerned in finding meaning in the war rather than fighting it. It manages not to get too caught up in what's going on (a little too much if you ask me, but that's to pander to audiences a bit and get a mass release).
It's quite a filmmaking feat.

Aside from obvious "why didn't she torture until he gave up the code" and other eagles related stuff I thought it was a great movie and honestly it's the one that deserves oscar the most out of contendents.
