Looks like such a dad film. It's impossible to just engage with a film like this, there's always that degree of seperation where I spend the entire thing imagining somebody's dad enjoying it, which is very offputting. You can hear the imaginary dad laughing at the "funny" parts, picture him getting excited by the "thrilling" parts. I can't do it.
It's not even an age of release thing. Master and Commander and Gladiator give off the same Dadflick tone while I can watch older films like Stroszek and Don't Look Now and not feel the dad on my shoulder the entire time. The Revenant had that dadflick vibe too, to name a very recent example.

There's a big action scene where Batman tries to steal Lex's Kryptonite, but fails when Superman stops and scolds him. Two scenes later, Batman steals the same Kryptonite off screen successfully, with no action scene.

There's no problem here. Batman tried to get it, he was stopped. Luckily being Batman he had a fallback plan, the tracker. The peek of the destruction of Lex's lab and the Batarang to let Lex know it's poppin' was awesome.

Hey /tv/, just watched this today for the first time, and Zootopia last night, and I gave to say, while neither one is a cinematic masterpiece by any means, both are fun movies, technically sound, entertaining. Both movies have decent writing and direction. Both movies are satisfying as what they are, but don't do much more.
So I have two things to bring up for discussion, number one is how can we improve new IPs with resources behind them. The budget of these movies wasn't the main issue holding them back, though I suspect the marketing budget may have been partially to blame for them performing well but not excellently at the box office. For them to become exciting and interesting movies, what could they have done? What would have made these movies better?

It makes too much sense not to be true. If it was only one or two things that pointed to it, I'd pass it off as a coincidence, but there is a mountain of moments in the films that look far too suspicious when going in with the mindset that Jar Jar is a sith lord.
