Here's the real reason Finn is in a coma at the end of the movie.
They want to have them in an interracial relationship, but they weren't sure of people who flip their shit. Especially chinese audiences who are apparently racist against blacks. So they hint at an attraction (with him inadvertently holding her hand, etc), but knock him into a coma at the end of it. So if there was a huge backlash against the relationship and the character himself, they can use the coma as an excuse to pull the plug on him or keep him minor in the follow ups. If the reaction is positive, then Finn comes out of his coma and they will portray a relationship between them.
Finn's coma is not simply a part of the story, it was specifically so that they could keep their options open.
