Rolled 7 (1d20)

THE HORUS HERESY GENERAL

OP guy is asleep, post OPs edition.
Taking Isstvaan legions off the OP since russia gave us the Age of Darkness legions sub-edition.
LAST TIME ON DRAGONBALL HHG Someone asked about Power lances on command squads, people listed the biggest dicks of 30K and discussed the inner workings of Rogue Trader which led to the realization that the reason CSM still get a Sv after 10,000 years without armour maintenance is because Perty put tiny forts on their guns. Traitor rules for loyalist legions was hypothesised as was the reason for using Astartes to man walls. Someone asked what everyone gave their preator, the Sanguine Hairesy was invented, Angron is the reason Lorgar is bald and Erebus is /b/ for no reason AND MORE. >>46860155

Stupid question time because I'm too lazy to work out what book the answer's in. There are a growing number of few rites of war that specify you must be the attacker in missions with an attacker and a defender (IW Ironfire, DG Creeping Death, etc.). What happens if you and your opponent both turn up with lists using these rites? Do you just have to roll a different scenario, or is there a way to resolve it in the rules?
>>
I have a question for you all. After six hardback Horus Heresy books from Forgeworld, which one would you rate the best? The Worst? Which one had the best content in it? The worst content? We talk about ranking the BL books all the time, but never the FW ones, and I want to change that.

How does the Primarch's Chosen RoW work? Do I need a Praetor/Delegatus to unlock the RoW first and fill the mandatory HQ slot and then buy the Primarch as a HQ choice or do I buy the Primarch and then choose the RoW which makes it a HQ to fill the mandatory slot?

I'd say photon thrusters target vehicles, given they have the lance rule. I'd also say it's a typo and FW omitted it. I don't use tarantulas, and I know nobody who uses them.

Just a quick question, does Maru Skara allow you to use its abilities on a transport carrying a unit from another FoC slot? So can I shove a command squad in a dreadclaw drop pod and decide to have it arrive turn 2 alongside my palatine blades and seekers?

Also outside of of meltabombs is there any reliable way to kill vehicles in an infantry heavy army?

I'd say so yeah.

Chainfists, lascannon/missile launcher heavy weapons teams, melta support squads depending on how prolific AC is in your meta, an attached siege breaker for tank hunters.

That's up to FW. I hope we at least get frost axes and swords. Ice beams and icicle I can live without. Even without wolf claws.

Did you forge the part where it did, in the Terminus Est? It is a 30k era ship design, which just didn't get into mass production until M36. Without the Terminus Est we wouldn't have the Despoiler class.

But the bigger point is that Chaos didn't invent that ships class or pretty much any of the Chaos ships. More and more of Dark Mechanicum's inventions are just perverted versions of HH shit, not original works.

They probably didn't bother leaving it up because I'm not sure they ever sold one to anyone who wasn't GW. I'd doubt they'd trash the molds so long as they're intact, never know when GW is going to need a big terrain piece for a diorama.

Yeah they're quite a point investment but with an attached siege breaker they'll evaporate most units. Stick them in cover with hardened armour and an augery scanner and they'll earn their points back unless you're opponent doesn't use vehicles.

I'm aware that many marines do not adore the Emperor, but rather venerate him as the ideal of the human being...but then there are the Black Templars. The dude even says the Emperor was "protecting mankind with His lie" when confronted about wether or not He was divine.

BT's are one of the few space marine chapters that actually worship the emperor. Nah, Phospex goes onto the third line, to cut them off from reinforcing enemy's second line.
you recruit 50.000 unlucky conscripts, arm half of them (lasguns are expensive, and you need enough to make the second wave look credible enough) to exhaust their ammo.

then you roll in your Iron warriors...

Your paltry half dozen or so twin linked lascannons isn't going to count for shit when your fort is being hammered by long range ordnance and superheavy primary weapons.

You'd better have a better plan than to hole up in a fortress (huge amounts of hull points though it may have) with nothing but infantry and a handful of weapon emplacements because if you didn't bring anything to this fight that can stop an attacking siege force, you're already fucked.

All fortresses eventually fall. All trenches and forward positions are eventually overrun.
Every Iron Warrior knows this.

Allegiance: Loyalist

[Heavy Support]
5 Heavy Support Marines: 260 Points
Lascannons
Hardened Armour

Fluffwise the army is a group of veterans who decided to remain loyal, lacking the heavy support assets of the main legion they rely instead on their innate skill in combat to defeat the enemy, superior marksmen and swordsmen. Aesthetically I differentiate between the tactical marines and seekers by having the tactical marines wear Mk II armour while the seekers, praetor, champion, and palatines wear Mk IV armour, the lascannon marines (sunkillers) wear Mk III armour.

Tactics wise the list is pretty simple the tactical marines, lascannon marines, and a single unit of seekers lay down fire on the enemy, while two palatine blade squads (the praetor and champion are in the same unit) and a unit of seekers outflank turn 2. List tends to perform very poorly against terminator or vehicle heavy armies but against blob marines it is great (as one would expect from two ten man squads of WS 5 marines with power swords who swing first).

I might in the future modify the list to drop the power swords in the palatine squad that my praetor and champion run with and reinvest the saved points into five phoenix spears for the squad, would give my army some more hitting power against terminators outside of just hoping my praetor and champion can solo the unit.

I got a few (for some 40k conversions) and they're about the size of Vanguard storm shields. I like their more nimble and utilitarian look. Like it's something you could see the breacher use both for blocking enemy fire as well as whacking someone over the head with.

Thanks

Anyway, I was thinking of kitting out one or both of the palatine squads like this instead
10 dudes
5 phoenix spears
5 charnabal sabres
Overall cost would be the same but the unit would have 15 Str 5 AP 2 attacks in addition to the 7 from the praetor and the 4 from the champion. I figure 26 WS 5-6 attacks wounding marines on a 3+ and AP 2 in addition to the rending from the sabres should be able to fuck up anything that isn't a massive beastick unit. I would like to keep the hardened armour for fluff purposes (same reason I gave the seeker sergeants artificer armour even though they would easily die in a challenge due to only having a regular CCW).

Another possible option I thought of would be to replace one of the seeker squads with another lascannon unit. Lose a few bodies but would really help against vehicles and terminators (particularly multi-wound terminators).

Anybody?

You know it to be true.

I've always found middle of the back angel wings weird, always thought of angel wings as being attached to the upper back, like where the shoulder blades would normally be.

On topic you might want to look at some terminator heads and modify them, they might be big enough that he won't suffer from a severe case of tiny head. Phoenix Guard terminator heads look like they have potential, probably add some ear wings or something for blood angels, but if the head is the right size it should look somewhat fitting.

Looking into getting a Horus Heresy legion. What does Alpha Legion do in this game?
>>
>>46892646
Infiltrate everyfucking thing. Also a nice legion because they have a Rite of War that lets them take one legion unique unit from another legion. So if you like the way Palatine Blades of Gal Vorbek look you can buy one unit, paint it up, and include it in your Alpha Legion army.

That sounds rad. How about the Imperial Fists? I play them in 40k but hate their dumb heads in 30k.

Good termies, good bolters, viable Heavy Weapon squads and marines with breacher shields. They also have a deep strike RoW and a shield one. They could have better legion specific units though, but their characters are great, and very dangerous in melee.
The wiki could be very informative to you

I'm off to sleep, /hhg/. Let's see what Emperor/Scoria-induced dreams await me.

Anyone playing against or having any luck with BA?
>>
>>46893895
Played my buddy's BA army couple times. Day of revelation RoW is strong. 2 twenty man assault blobs with chaps, one praetor. Supported by a regular tac squad, contemptors, Sicaran and scorpius. Those jump marines can go places I tell ya

I've been trying to make assault marines work for DoR but their cost and vulnerability to blasts make me think twice. If I may ask how many points were you playing?

Very early WIP for the scheme of the army

looks good so far.

What are the future plans?

Also read the old visions of heresy stuff.

Apparently Saul Tarvitz was once the First Captain of the EC.

Did Bl dump that?

Annoying.

It really feels good when your memes get mentioned in the general info

Tarvitz was always a line captain I thought?

The stuff in collected visions names him as First Captain.
