Let's suppose the modern NBA's teams time-warped back to the 80s and 90s. Hand-checking was allowed, illegal defense rules reverted, and most importantly, there was much more acceptance of hard fouls. Elbows and fists could fly with abandon.
How would the league change? Who would rise, who would fall?

I did something about this on the NBA recently family.
11 of 30 NBA teams, or over a third of that league, are concentrated in just four states (CA TX NY FL). I then came up with maybe 28-29 states not having an NBA team.
But then I stepped back: there are only 30 NBA teams, and there are only 50 states. So given the size of that league, using some version of the pigeonhole principle from basic mathematics, a minimum of 20 states will be keked out of not having a basketball team (if they even care) to begin with. so there's that.
Haven't run this on the NFL just yet.
